*Fundus Photography Findings:*
The fundus photo of the left eye reveals signs consistent with hypertensive retinopathy. This condition is characterized by damage to the retina due to high blood pressure, which can lead to vision problems if not properly managed.

*Importance of Fundus Photography:*

1. *Early Detection:* Fundus photography allows for the early detection of retinal diseases such as hypertensive retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Early detection is crucial for timely intervention and preventing vision loss.

2. *Monitoring Disease Progression:* Regular fundus photos help in monitoring the progression of retinal diseases and the effectiveness of the treatment plan. This is particularly important for managing conditions like hypertensive retinopathy, where changes in retinal vasculature can reflect systemic vascular health.

3. *Comprehensive Eye Examination:* Fundus photography is a non-invasive and comprehensive tool that provides a detailed view of the retina, optic disc, and macula. It aids in the diagnosis of both ocular and systemic diseases that manifest in the eye.

4. *Patient Education and Compliance:* Visual documentation through fundus photography can be a powerful tool for patient education. It helps patients understand their condition better and underscores the importance of adhering to treatment plans, whether it be for ocular health or systemic conditions like hypertension.

5. *Record Keeping:* Fundus photos provide a permanent record of the retina's appearance at a particular point in time. This is invaluable for tracking changes over time and making informed decisions regarding patient care.

Given the findings in the left eye and the preserved vision in the right eye, it is crucial for the patient to manage her hypertension effectively and adhere to any prescribed treatment plans to prevent further vision deterioration. Regular follow-ups and monitoring will be essential in preserving her vision.

August is Sight Saving Month

"Look After Your Eyes for a Better and Brighter Future" is a fantastic theme for Sight Saving Month! 🌟 It emphasizes the importance of eye care and vision health in shaping our future. Here are some potential ways to promote this theme:

1. Social media campaigns sharing eye care tips and facts
2. Free eye screenings and check-ups in communities
3. Educational events and workshops on eye health
4. Collaborations with eye care professionals and organizations
5. Promoting healthy habits for eye care, like regular breaks from screens

Hot Take: AI isn’t going to replace optometrists. But it will replace the ones who pretend it’s not coming.

I don’t believe AI will replace optometrists.

But I do believe it will replace the ones who pretend it’s not coming. And honestly, I get it.

It's easier to brush it off as a "tech trend" than to admit we might need to rethink the way we've always done things. But the world is changing, with or without our permission.

Patients are living in a reality where everything is faster, smarter, more intuitive. And if we are honest with ourselves we want the same thing as a consumer ourselves!

So why are so many practices still drowning in manual workflows, paper trails, and outdated systems?

This isn’t about losing the human touch.

It’s about protecting it.

Because the more time we spend buried in admin, the less time we spend with the people we actually got into this field for.

AI isn’t the enemy. It’s the assistant we’ve always needed but never had until now.

It can automate the boring stuff. Streamline the chaotic. Flag what we might miss on a busy day. And most importantly, it gives us back something we've been running short on for years: time.

Time to listen.

Time to educate.

Time to lead with empathy instead of rushing through appointments.

The optometrists who are open to change, who ask better questions, test new systems, and stay curious, those are the ones who’ll shape what this industry looks like in the next 10 years.

I’m not here to preach tech. I’m just here to say.

We can either evolve... or watch from the sidelines while others do. And I’d rather grow with it then get left behind by it.

Curious, have you started using any AI tools in your practice or workflow?

What’s working for you or what are you still unsure about. Let’s share notes.(Brianna Rhue)
