Noong 1901, kuha ni Dr. Allan Warner mula sa Leicester Isolation Hospital ang isang litrato na naging mahalaga sa kasaysayan ng medisina at pampublikong kalusugan.

Makikita rito ang dalawang batang lalaki, parehong 13 years old, na nagkaroon ng measles sa parehong araw, marahil galing sa parehong kaklase. Sa unang tingin, magkamukha sila… pero iba ang naging resulta ng sakit nila.

Ang isang bata ay nabakunahan noong sanggol pa, samantalang ang isa ay hindi. Malinaw ang kaibahan: ang batang hindi nabakunahan ay nagkaroon ng malubhang impeksyon na may pustules sa katawan, habang ang nabakunahan ay nakaranas lang ng mild na kaso — ilang spots lang na mabilis natuyo at gumaling.

Ipinublish ni Dr. Warner ang larawang ito sa Atlas of Clinical Medicine, Surgery, and Pathology at ginamit sa lectures at public demonstrations para ipakita ang buhay na nai-save ng bakuna. Mahigit isang siglo na ang lumipas, pero nagsasalita pa rin ang litrato ng katotohanan: vaccination saves lives.

Fun fact: Ang measles ay isa sa pinaka-makitid na sakit na puwedeng ma-prevent sa pamamagitan ng bakuna, at noong early 1900s, libo-libong bata ang namamatay bawat taon dahil sa sakit na ito bago naging common ang vaccination.
