𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐗-𝐑𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐁 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐨𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭

The Municipal Health Office of Laoang, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress, successfully conducted a Free Chest X-Ray and Tuberculosis (TB) Screening on March 2, 2026, at the Laoang Fishport.

The activity aimed to bring essential diagnostic services closer to the community, particularly to individuals who may have limited access to regular medical consultations. Through free chest x-rays and on-site TB screening, the initiative supported early detection of possible tuberculosis cases, enabling timely referral, proper management, and prevention of further transmission.

Health personnel from the Municipal Health Office facilitated the screening process, assisted clients throughout the activity, and provided health education on TB symptoms, prevention, and the importance of completing prescribed treatment. Participants were also guided on the next steps for follow-up evaluation when necessary.

The Municipal Health Office remains committed to strengthening tuberculosis control efforts and ensuring that accessible, preventive, and quality healthcare services are available to all Laoanganons.

The Laoang Rural Health Unit (RHU) reminds everyone to stay vigilant against Typhoid Fever, a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water.

🛑 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬:
● Sustained high fever and severe headache
● Abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation
● Weakness and loss of appetite

🛡️ 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲:
● Boil your water: Ensure it reaches a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes.
● Eat safely: Cook food thoroughly, keep it covered from flies, and avoid unsanitary street food.
● Practice hygiene: Wash hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.
● Keep it clean: Maintain a clean environment to prevent pests.

🦷 National Dental Health Month 🦷

In observance of Dental Health Month, a dental health outreach activity was conducted on February 07, 2026 by the Philippine Dental Association – Northern Samar Chapter, with the assistance of the Municipal Health Office - Laoang and the Barangay Officials of Bobolosan.

The activity accommodated residents from Brgy. Bobolosan, Brgy. Cangcahipos, and Brgy. Cabagoan, aiming to promote proper oral hygiene, preventive dental care, and awareness of the importance of regular dental check-ups as essential components of overall health and well-being.

Through education and community engagement, this initiative encouraged individuals and families to practice good dental habits and take proactive steps toward maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

This collaborative effort highlights the shared commitment of partner institutions and local leaders in advancing oral health education and fostering healthier smiles within the community.

Strengthening its commitment to inclusive health services, the Local Government Unit of Laoang, through its Municipal Health Office, successfully partnered with the NORFIL Foundation, Inc. to conduct a specialized medical mission on February 06, 2026. The activity, which was held at the Rural Health Unit (RHU), provided vital Developmental Pediatrician check-ups for local children who showed manifestations of psychosocial impairment.

​The initiative was made possible through a formal request from the NORFIL Foundation to the Mayor’s Office, which was coordinated through OIC-Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ma. Joy Anacta Gatarin and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Jocelyn Giray Cerbito. As part of the collaboration, the NORFIL Foundation covered the professional costs of the specialist, while the LGU provided the venue, logistical support, and RHU personnel who assisted during the day-long activity.

​This medical mission specifically targeted children with complex developmental needs that often required specialized expertise not always available at the municipal level. By bringing a developmental pediatrician directly to Laoang, the LGU and NORFIL ensured that families were able to access critical diagnostic and intervention services without the burden of traveling to larger provincial centers.
