A comprehensive review of hepatitis B vaccination found no evidence that delaying the birth dose provides any safety or efficacy benefits and identified substantial risks associated with changing long-standing recommendations, according to a report from the Vaccine Integrity Project (VIP).

The project, hosted by the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, released its analysis Tuesday, 2 days before the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meets to revisit a proposal to recommend postponing the first dose of the vaccine until at least 1 month for infants born to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-negative mothers.
