UHS KALUSUGAN FIESTA CELEBRATES OVCCA @28 WITH VARIOUS HEALTH PROMOTION ACTIVITIES
The University Health Service hosted its annual Kalusugan Fiesta on Day 4 of the weeklong celebration that marks the 28th anniversary of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs.
Held at the UHS, Medical Director Dr. Jessie Imelda F. Walde officially opened the day, serving almost 200 beneficiaries from the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) and various OVCCA units.
The event focused on providing extensive and free health services mobilized primarily by the UHS Department of Family and Community Medicine. This is in collaboration with various pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies. Attendees benefited from a variety of complimentary health screenings designed to promote health awareness and the early detection of diseases. The health screening included the following:
•Cardiovascular checks such as the electrocardiogram or ECG, and the Ankle Brachial Index or the ABI;
•Metabolic and organ screening such as blood sugar, cholesterol, bone, and kidney function tests; and,
•Wellness management such as on-site nutritional assessments and consultations for weight loss management.
The Kalusugan Fiesta also served as a distribution event for essential wellness items. Generous sponsors provided free samples and giveaways such as multivitamins and supplements for both children and adults, transdermal patches and medicines for fever and pain relief, oral hygiene kits, mini first aid kits, lozenges, and free tasting of nutritional drinks.
Besides the clinical services, the activity ensured a fun atmosphere. The UHS DFCM hosted interactive games designed to engage attendees and test their physical skills. They administered the Catch the Stick Challenge for reflexes, and the Dexterity Game for hand-eye coordination.
Food sampling was a popular part of the festivity made possible through the continued support of the UPLB Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) and the UPLB Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI). They offered their renowned free corn grits champorado, soy milk, and fresh milk sampling. The UHS, on the other hand, further delighted the guests with free local snacks, such as taho, monggo ginataan, and ice cream.
The University Health Service extends its sincere gratitude to all participating sponsors whose support made this event a success.
