Another recognition for the University Health Service.
On 11 December 2025, the University Health Service received a Plaque of Recognition from the Foundation for St. Therese Foundation – Los Baños, Inc. in line with the UHS program: “Empowering the Youth Toward Self-Care: A Stronger Commitment to Mental Wellness.”
As written on the plaque, the recognition was given to the UHS for their effort in inculcating the importance of taking charge of one’s health and cultivating wellness-seeking behaviors, especially among the youth with mental health concerns, thus creating an empowered Los Baños student constituency.
Aside from the plaque, certificates of recognition were also given to the UHS Mental Health Clinic team, led by Medical Director Jessie Imelda F. Walde, University Psychiatrist Alexandra Jean C. Palis, MHC Nurse Coordinator Maria Cristina W. Zafaralla, and Chief Pharmacist Felicidad B. Navarro, for their tireless efforts and commitment that made an impact on the success of the program.
The recognition was presented by the members of the Foundation for St. Therese – Los Baños, Inc., headed by their President, Ms. Eva C. Labadan, and Board of Trustees, Dr. Desiree M. Hautea, and Dr. Melinda F. Lumanta, who happens to be also the Co-Chair of the Awards Committee, and Los Baños Mayor Neil Andrew N. Nocon.
In return, Medical Director Walde expressed her gratitude to the Foundation for the recognition and their endless support for the program. Dr. Walde emphasized that in just 15 months, the gravity of the support of the Foundation for St. Therese – Los Baños, Inc. was felt and made a big difference for its beneficiaries, the UPLB students, and the community. And as proof, a letter written by one of the beneficiaries was read by the MHC Nurse Coordinator Zafaralla, in which the student narrates her healing journey.
It will be recalled that the University Health Service and the Foundation for St. Therese – Los Baños Inc. formally launched the program: “Empowering the Youth Toward Self-Care: A Stronger Commitment to Mental Wellness” on 20 September 2024. The partnership aims to give additional psychological support to the UPLB students through access to medicines. Since its launch, the UHS has received a series of psychotropic medicines from the Foundation, which are given free of charge to actively enrolled UPLB students under the care of the UHS Mental Health Clinic.
