The UPLB Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA), through the Office of Student Housing (OSH), together with its nine (9) student dormitories, successfully concluded a week-long dormitory orientation program for student residents held from 02โ06 February 2026. The sessions were conducted across multiple venues, namely the Makiling Ballroom at the Student Union Building, Menโs Residence Hall Lobby, Veterinary Medicine Residence Hall TV Area, and the Makiling Residence Hall (MAREHA) Learning Hub.
The orientation program was designed to facilitate a smooth and informed transition into dormitory life for both new and returning residents. It provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the Office of Student Housing and dormitory personnel, Student Dormitory Officers, and the UPLB Alliance of Dormitory Associations (ADA), including their officers, and planned activities. The sessions also covered important updates on student housing operations and policies, as well as essential provisions of the Residence Hall Agreement (RHA) to ensure that residents are well-informed of their rights, responsibilities, and community standards.
The orientations were spearheaded by OSH Director Marcelina C. Miranda, together with the dormitory managers/heads and staff of the Menโs Residence Hall, Veterinary Medicine Residence Hall, New Dormitory Residence Hall, Makiling Residence Hall, Forestry Residence Hall, New Forestry Residence Hall, ATI-NTC Residence Hall, International Residence Hall, and Womenโs Residence Hall. Their active participation ensured that students received accurate information and had direct access to administrators who oversee daily dormitory operations.
Anchored on the concept of fostering a โhome away from home,โ the orientation series placed strong emphasis on safety, security, and community-building as fundamental pillars of student housing. Open forums were conducted to encourage students to raise concerns, seek clarifications, and provide feedback directly to dormitory administrators, promoting transparent communication and shared responsibility within the residential community.
Through these initiatives, the Office of Student Housing reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, secure, and student-centered housing accommodations. The dormitory orientations aim to help residents better understand policies and services, feel supported in their campus living experience, and become empowered members of the UPLB dormitory community.
