Family Planning pertains to all decisions a person or a couple make of they want to have children, when or how. Counseling and health teachings plays a vital role in supporting intended pregnancy and contraception based on one's desire and condition in life.

Three Elements of Family Planning:
1. Proper Spacing

3. Number

Natural Family Planning - pertains to a method that does not introduce any chemicals or foreign substance to the body to avoid conception. The following are some natural methods that may help a couple:
1. Abstinence
2. Calendar Rhythm Method
3. Basal Body Temperature Method (BBT)
4. Cervical Mucus Method (CMM)
5. Symptothermal Method
6. Ovulation Detection

LET'S TALK ABOUT: THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE

Getting your period is known medically as menstruation. Women who have completed puberty will begin bleeding during their menstrual cycle once a month. This occurs as a result of the uterine lining's preparation for a potential pregnancy, which included growing thicker and more blood vessel-rich. This thicker lining is lost along with bleeding if pregnancy does not occur. Bleeding typically persists for 3 to 8 days.

The average menstrual cycle lasts 28-29 days, but this varies greatly between women and from cycle to cycle. The length of your menstrual cycle is determined by counting from the first day of your period to the last day your next period.

Between the ages of 11 and 14, girls experience their first period (monarchy). Other sexual characteristics such as p***c hair and budding breast have developed by this time.

Malaria pertains to a parasitic disease caused by the genus Plasmodium. It affects the body as the causative agent attacks red blood cells which leads to anemia. Malaria is transmitted through vectors called "Anopheles" mosquito. It is more fatal to children and pregnant women.

During this month from November 1-November 30, we are celebrating Malaria Awareness Month based on the Proclamation No. 1168 in the Philippines.

LET US TALK ABOUT: TELEMEDICINE

The term "telemedicine" refers to the delivery of clinical services remotely through two-way, real-time audio and visual communication between a patient and a healthcare professional. Telemedicine sounds a bit like science fiction, but the practice is far from fictitious.

It is challenging to contest the advantages of telemedicine. The first benefit of telemedicine is convenience: there is no need for a babysitter, traffic, time off work, or gas. Patients are more likely to seek care because a lot of the anxiety associated with in-person visits has been removed. It resembles a house call that was made previously, but virtually.

Telemedicine offers various health advantages in addition to convenience. The practice's increased accessibility to healthcare services, particularly primary care and follow-up appointments, is its most significant benefit. Telemedicine is a solution for people to communicate with doctors from anywhere with an internet connection, regardless of whether they have a busy schedule, have limited time off from work, or are unable to drive. Clear and recorded patient communication results in better patient monitoring for doctors and fewer missed appointments.

As we continue to have development in technology, telehealth or telemedicine proceeds to provide its goal, helping the healthcare field to provide quality care at a lesser cost. With that, the picture shown below consists of tips during at-home sessions for telemedicine.

Do you know what a patient portal is?

An electronic healthcare record feature, called Patient Portal, replaces the Personal Health Record. A Patient Portal is a secure online site where a patient accesses his or her health information and communicates with the healthcare provider team. Access to the Patient Portal requires username and password. The portal is accessible anytime and anywhere the patient has Internet access. Through the patient portal, patients can view physician consultations, laboratory and radiological results, medications, and allergies.
In addition, health care providers may provide patients with reminders about physical exams, upcoming appointments, medication refills, and billing information. A new feature in the Patient Portal is Electronic Visits. Using electronic visits, patients can consult their health care providers about non-emergent health conditions. Patient Portal and Personal Health Record are sometimes used interchangeably. There is an important difference. A personal health record is checked by the patient. No one, including the provider, can access it without permission. In contrast, Patient Portal is available for providers to upload information.

Did you know that one of the dirtiest part of the body are the hands?
Our hands are used in grasping, holding, and touching objects around us. Hands are also used in exhibiting nonverbal communication with other people. Due to these exposures, our hands may also be a way to acquire and transmit pathogenic microorganisms (Morson, 2022)

Now, we can combat those littele germs through hand hygiene. Hand hygiene is the most effective infection control procedure. However, we must be able to be reminded when to do that and what are the ways to do that.
