Meet Teacher Kat
Teacher Kat de la Cruz is a speech-language therapist from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (2022).
She initially wanted to pursue medicine, but growing up with relatives with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Williams Syndrome, and intellectual disability, she saw how frustrating it was when one is unable to express wants, needs, or feelings. An introvert and natural observer, she is attentive to nonverbal cues and body language, leading her to realize how deeply communication shapes lives. She then chose a career helping others find their voice.
Kat is certified in Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), a specialized approach for children who process language in chunks rather than individual words. This training allows her to better support children with unique language development patterns, ensuring therapy is tailored to their natural communication style, and ensuring they feel seen, heard, and understood.
Outside of work, Kat is exploring new hobbies such as pickleball and badminton🏸pottery, painting🎨, and punch needling🪡.
