Early Intervention is Key!👏

V started physical therapy at age 7 months and occupational and speech therapy at 10 months. Early intervention for mild cp has paid off big time. He is now in college and finds true enjoyment in sports. For pickleball addicts out there, this guy is wicked!👍🏼

Here’s Teacher Mica!😀

Teacher Mica Pusing graduated in 2016 from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. She has been practicing as an OT for nine years, working extensively with children diagnosed with ADHD and those in early intervention programs. Teacher Mica’s practice focuses on sensory regulation and Floortime-based approaches, ensuring child-centered and developmentally supportive therapy. She is also a trained professional in handwriting intervention which supports children’s fine-motor, visual-motor, and writing readiness skills.

She chose Occupational Therapy because she genuinely enjoys working with children and helping them grow through meaningful activities. Outside of work, Teacher Mica is a cat lover who enjoys watching anime and reading webtoons during her free time.

The “One More” Rule

How do we increase the attention spans of distracted or fidgety children? Our One More Rule always saves the day. Make it a short and fast extension of the activity and you’ll be surprised that your child can soon stay with an activity for a longer period.

For the nation, Larry Henares was nationalist, industrialist, economist, newspaper columnist, radio and television host. For me, he was father, teacher and speech coach.

Lessons I learned from Larry Henares (1924-2024):

No. 1
Expand your vocabulary. The richer your word repertoire, the more precise and profound your communication. Therefore read, then read some more.

No.2
Remember that the purpose of communication - whether spoken, written or signed - is to be understood. They are not just words, they are tools for sharing ideas. Make sure people understand or nothing else will matter.

No. 3
Enunciate. Give each phoneme the honor of being heard. Be warned that the meaning of a word may tragically change upon omission or mispronounciation. If so, please review Rule No. 2.😀

Teacher Maan Magtira, occupational therapist, has been with TalkActive Mandaluyong since 2018. She started with two days a week and ended with four days a week. In SEVEN years, she has helped a whole lot of TalkActive families.😀❤️

She is now finishing her Masters in Psychology and wants to practice both as an occupational therapist and child psychologist.

Omg. Omg. Omg. Seeing Marcus using his AAC at home to say OPEN GIFT makes us so, so proud. AAC should help your child interact with you in ALL of his environments. This is so he can one day thrive in his community independent of you. Always use the AAC at home, in school, in the store, at parties. This will teach our loved ones to advocate for themselves and to educate the people around them about including AAC users in their conversations!
