I love dermatology!!! Apart from surgeries, lasers and injectables, I truly enjoy the medical side of dermatology too. Last year, I went all in and studied immunology.

Dermatologic immunology is a specialized field that investigates the intricate interplay between the immune system and the skin. It encompasses the study of immune responses within the skin. Dermatologic immunology is crucial for understanding the pathogenesis of various immune-mediated skin diseases, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, and for developing therapeutic interventions that target the underlying immune dysregulation. While these diseases are chronic and have no permanent cure, knowing how to prevent and manage the condition improves the patient's quality of life.

Let's start the year with bright skin!!!

Melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark, patchy discoloration on sun-exposed areas of the skin, most often the face. It is a form of hyperpigmentation and is typically symmetrical, appearing on both sides of the cheeks, forehead, nose, or upper lip.

Common causes include: sun exposure, hormonal changes and genetic predisposition.

Melasma can be chronic and recurrent, meaning treatment often focuses on management rather than permanent cure. From my clinical experience, sun protection, consistent brightening skin care and regular chemical peels are the most cost-effective treatment options.
