Did you know that normal chewing places about 68 lbs/sq inch of pressure on the back teeth? If you intentionally clench your teeth you may increase that force to about 150 lbs/ sq inch. An individual who clenches and grinds their teeth subconsciously at night can place up to 1200 lbs/ sq inch of force.

“Photos released in the New England Journal of Medicine show a 17-year-old Nevada boy's jaw in pieces after his v**e pen exploded in his mouth.”

A v**e pen exploded in a teenager's mouth, causing injuries so severe a pediatric surgeon who helped him said it looked similar to a "gunshot wound."

In simpler language, this study says that there is correlation between gum disease and Alzheimer's disease.

Not to forget that gum disease definitely correlates with heart disease.

And for pregnant women, gum disease and premature birth.

As with diabetes, and fertility, and cancer.

Having a healthy mouth goes far beyond having a nice smile.
HEALTHY MOUTH, HEALTHY BODY.

Transformations.

Replacing lost oral structures and restoring diseased ones
Are one thing;

Creating smiles & finding balance founded on confort, health, function
& esthetics
Are another thing.

Both requiring much planning, patience, grit, humor and love.

It's A Good Thing!

This article is shared with permission from our friends at Dr. Axe. Is diet soda bad for you? Specifically, does it actually help you lose weight? Long story short, no. In fact, a Purdue researcher says public health officials should tell people to avoid diet soda much like they do with regular, sug...

Myth:
If I lose a tooth in the back of the mouth, it is not a big deal because no one sees it anyway.

Toothfairy Fact:
Empty spaces in the back are a big deal! When you have an empty space, the adjacent teeth can drift and tilt, causing spacing, gum pockets, and loss of bone. Opposing teeth will tend to slowly erupt out of its socket in an attempt to meet up with another tooth. Additionally, if multiple teeth are lost in the back of the mouth, it causes additional stress on the other teeth, resulting in the enamel to wear faster. In the case of heavy grinders, missing teeth in the back can cause front teeth to wear, chip and break, causing their bite to collapse, and slowly break down what is seen when smiling.

The power of the word.
Meet my 5-generation patients:
Lyn, Nitz and Judah. Not in photo are Connie and Anna.

Connie, a friend and patient of mine referred Lyn in 1998; Lyn referred Judah the following year; Judah referred Nitz a few years later, they became a couple and then married each other; Nitz referred Anne, her officemate a couple of weeks ago.

It was purely coincidental that all three of them had a recall appointment with me, one after another, today! Anna had to cancel her appointment for a sudden travel overseas today. Thus, this must-do photo.

We have all since become very good friends and "family" through the years, threaded together under our common goals of comfort, health, function and aesthetics for healthy teeth and superb, happy smiles!!

Here's to healthy, happy smiles forever!
Cheers!!!

Oil pulling is not enough oral hygiene regimen at home!
Nothing can replace flossing. You may miss out on brushing your teeth sometimes, but never ever on flossing them.

Oil pulling while it is good, is recommended and is beneficial, is only an adjunct to oral hygiene. It may not remove or dislodge food debris that may have gotten stuck between your teeth after eating a meal. Food debris between teeth causes gum disese, tooth decay, and therefore bad breath and eventual tooth loss.

Floss! It is a necessary tooland activity in order to maintain oral health. It tones your gums and keeps them tight to hold your teeth in place.

Floss and say goodbye to bleeding gums! Bleeding gums means gum disease from gingivitis to periodontitis which means inflammation of tissues around the teeth. Gum disease can lead to heart disease, low birth rate, and bone loss, among other diseases. I have yet to meet a patient that wants to lose all of her teeth in favor of wearing full dentures. (Makes one look old, by the way).

So you see, it is up to you and your dentist to help you keep yourself in good shape. Ask your dentist to teach you how to floss. Your oral health is your responsibility.

Floss and save a whole lot of money from costly dental treatment! Talk to your dentist about this. Visit them regularly for prophylaxis, including checking your gums and screening for cancer.

Truly, the mouth is the window into the health of your body.

Okay enough of this sermon.
Just floss. Regularly! 😳
