Do You Have Sciatica? Try This Simple Check at Home
Do you sometimes feel pain in your lower back that travels down to your leg?
It may not be ordinary back pain. It could be Sciatica.
Sciatica happens when the sciatic nerve (the longest nerve in the body) becomes irritated or compressed.
When this happens, the pain usually starts in the lower back or buttock and shoots or radiates down the leg.
Some people also feel tingling, numbness, or weakness in the leg or foot.
In our video, we show a simple check called the Bowstring Test that may help you see if your pain could be related to sciatica.
Here is the simple idea:
1️⃣ Lie down on your back.
2️⃣ Slowly raise your leg while keeping your knee straight.
3️⃣ If you feel pain going down your leg, bend the knee slightly.
4️⃣ Then gently press behind the knee area.
⚠️ If the pain shoots down the leg again, it may be a sign that the sciatic nerve is irritated.
But remember:
This test is only a simple guide. It does not replace a professional assessment. If your pain keeps coming back or gets worse, it is best to consult a healthcare professional.
At Posture Aid Physiotherapy Services, we help patients identify the real cause of their pain and provide safe, evidence-based treatment to relieve symptoms and improve posture.
