Not all plot twists are in novels—some are in tiny heart vessels 🔍

A 3-year-old dog was presented with a bluish discoloration of the tongue and gums prompting a full cardiac evaluation—the diagnosis: Eisenmenger syndrome resulting from an uncorrected Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).

While PDA is commonly discussed in human medicine, it is also a frequently diagnosed congenital heart defect in dogs, particularly in small breeds.

If left untreated, PDA can progress to pulmonary hypertension and Eisenmenger physiology, at which point surgical intervention is no longer feasible.

This case underscores the importance of early detection through regular veterinary visits and cardiac screening, especially for breeds predisposed to heart conditions.

We're sure a lot of pet owners have had a first-hand experience with their dogs getting a tick infestation, but it's more than just a nuisance to us and to our pets.

Ticks carry a lot of diseases, which can harm our pet's daily lifestyle. Blood parasitism is one of them, and it only takes one bite from a single tick to cause it. Symptoms can range from sudden weakness, pain sensitivity, lethargy to bleeding disorders that can lead to uncontrollable hemorrhage and even severe anemia.

Remember: prevention is ALWAYS better than cure! Ensure regular anti-parasitics are given, so we can avoid these pesky diseases compromising our loved ones' immunity.
