BRIEF HISTORY OF PHILIPPINE ROTC

In 1862,ROTC was established in the United States as a college elective focusing on military training and discipline.Many countries that were connected with the United States then followed the same program including the Republic of the Philippines.On the brink of World War II in the year 1912,the Americans established the first Philippine ROTC unit in the University of the Philippines even after the country gained its independence,the ROTC program remained a college elective for all Filipino students.

The City of Malabon University ROTC Unit conducted its 9th Training Day for Military Science 2 (MS-2) at the City of Malabon University Grounds, Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Brgy. Longos, Malabon City. The activity was organized by the ROTC Training Staff, Graduate Military Assistant, and Cadet Officers, led by the Admin NCO, under the supervision of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant. The MS-2 students were formed into a battalion for accounting and checking of attendance to ensure proper monitoring of cadet participation, discipline, and compliance with the ROTC training requirements.

At 0830H, the cadets proceeded to their respective rooms for the lectures on Survival Techniques 2 and Combat Training for the Individual Soldier, delivered by the Admin NCO, Sgt Mary Joy M San Pascual PA (Res), Sgt Manny Cardenas PA (Res) and Sgt Manny C Mabansag PA (Res). The purpose of the lectures was to equip the cadets with fundamental knowledge and practical concepts on survival skills and individual combat readiness, enabling them to respond effectively to challenging situations while strengthening their sense of responsibility, preparedness, and service to the nation.

At 1150H, the ROTC training staff organized the MS-2 students for announcement and dismissal at 1200H formally dismissed, marking the successful completion of the training day with no untoward incidents transpired.

โ€‹The City of Malabon University (CMU) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Unit successfully hosted its COCC Training Evaluation.

โ€‹At 0800H, COL Rommel M Agpaoa INF (GSC) PA, Commandant of the CMU ROTC Unit, addressed the Cadet Officer Candidate Course (COCC) in preparation for the evaluation. During his remarks, he outlined the objectives and importance of the activity as part of their continuous development as aspiring officers. He also took time to check on the cadetsโ€™ overall condition and morale, expressing his appreciation for their dedication to the program. Commandant Agpaoa encouraged them to remain steadfast in pursuing officership and to uphold the values of leadership, discipline, and integrity. Moreover, he conveyed his hope that they would successfully pass the forthcoming PAARCQE (Philippine Army ROTC Candidate Qualifying Examination) scheduled for March 15. He further motivated the cadets to prepare diligently for the upcoming ARAPT, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and mental readiness.

โ€‹At 0900H, the evaluation formally commenced, conducted by the Training Staff under the leadership of the Commandant. The activity began with Individual Practical Exercises (IPE), which assessed the cadetsโ€™ practical skills and leadership capabilities. These exercises included Voice Command, Military Drills, Manual of Arms, Basic Sword Carrying, Basic Military Knowledge and Principles (via recitation), and Familiarization with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Each cadet was evaluated individually to measure proficiency, confidence, bearing, and command presence.

โ€‹Following the practical exercises, the cadets proceeded to a comprehensive written examination. The test covered essential subjects such as Cadet Officership 1 and 2, the ROTC Merit and Demerit System, Military Customs and Traditions, and the principles of Followership. It also included discussions on relevant lawsโ€”namely Republic Act 11053 (Anti-Hazing Law), Republic Act 10627 (Anti-Bullying Act), and Republic Act 9710 (Gender and Development Law)โ€”ensuring that the cadets are knowledgeable in both military fundamentals and legal responsibilities.

โ€‹The evaluation was conducted in an organized and systematic manner, maintaining discipline and fairness throughout. The COCC performed commendably, demonstrating competence and confidence in both components. Their performance reflected the quality of training received, with many earning high scores and showing a strong grasp of military leadership.

On 010730 March 2026, the City of Malabon University ROTC Unit, under the leadership of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, conducted its 8th training day for Military Science 2, held at Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Brgy Longos, Malabon City. This formation ensured the proper organization, discipline, and readiness. The cadets then performed passed and review before proceeding to assigned rooms.

At around 0840H, COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, delivered an inspiring and encouraging message to drillers of the CMU ROTC Unit. He also mentioned and congratulates the next batch of incoming cadet officers.

โ€ŽAt 0900H, Pvt Cedrick Banay PA (Res), led the lecture Basic Life Support 2. It is to teach the cadets all the basic knowledge in saving lives and applying first aid. It is done to prepare them for what may come in the future.

At 1150H, the ROTC Training Staff and GMA formed the students at the CMU quadrangle for announcements regarding the upcoming 9th training day and dismissal.

The City of Malabon University (CMU) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Unit successfully hosted its seventh training day for Military Science 2 students at the CMU Campus in Longos, Malabon City. The day's activities, attended by 300 School-Based Ready Reserve Units (SBRRU) and MS-2 students, emphasized discipline, national security awareness, and performance excellence.

The training commenced at 0700H with MS2 students forming a battalion for attendance and accounting. This initial formation, overseen by the Training Staff, Graduate Military Assistant, Cadet Officers, headed by COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, reinforced organizational structure, discipline, and readiness. Cadets then engaged in drills, ceremonies, and fundamental facing movements.

At 1000H, COL AGPAOA held an encouraging meeting with the Fancy Drillers, highlighting the critical importance of their health and well-being. He motivated them to maintain discipline, focus, and consistently deliver their best during drills, inspiring them to uphold the unit's high standards of excellence.

Subsequently, at 1030H, 2LT DENVER D CORUM (INF) PA, Platoon Leader, 1st CMO Company, 11th CMOBn, in collaboration with the CMU ROTC Unit Admin NCO, conducted an information and education campaign. This session focused on AFP COMPLAN "MULAT" and PA Implan "PUKAW" for the West Philippine Sea, aiming to enhance community awareness and foster cooperation for peace and security. The program successfully raised awareness of national security concerns and promoted peace initiatives, ultimately bolstering students' understanding of national sovereignty and the critical issues pertinent to the West Philippine Sea.

At 1100H, the Admin NCO, CMU ROTC Unit presented informative videos that addressed issues related to national sovereignty concerning the West Philippine Sea, providing additional context and insights into the region.

Later, at 1130H, the Fancy Drillers captivated the cadets with a demonstration of their improved performance, a testament to their dedication and hard work, as guided by Graduate Military Assistant, Sgt Dennese Joy C Ruaya PA (Res).
