BRIEF HISTORY OF PHILIPPINE ROTC

In 1862,ROTC was established in the United States as a college elective focusing on military training and discipline.Many countries that were connected with the United States then followed the same program including the Republic of the Philippines.On the brink of World War II in the year 1912,the Americans established the first Philippine ROTC unit in the University of the Philippines even after the country gained its independence,the ROTC program remained a college elective for all Filipino students.

On 150730 February 2026, the City of Malabon University ROTC Unit, under the leadership of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, conducted its 6th training day for Military Science 2, held at Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Brgy Longos, Malabon City.

Members of the ROTC Training Staff, together with the Graduate Military Assistant (GMA) and Cadet Officers led by the Admin NCO, organized the MS-2 students into a battalion formation for accounting and attendance checking, followed by a pass and review.

At 0830H, the Admin NCO briefed the selected ROTC cadets on the background, concept and guidelines for the upcoming poster-making contest and ROTC essay writing in connection with the ROTC Month on 22 March 2026.

Subsequently, at 0920H, selected Basic and Advanced ROTC Cadets continued fancy drill rehearsals, supervised by the ROTC Training Staff and GMA.

At 1030H, MS-2 students proceeded to designated classrooms for midterm examinations on GAD Awareness, Personality Development, Military Customs and Traditions, Discipline, Courtesies and Core Values, Basic Military Correspondence, and Military History and Evolution. Said examination ended at about 1140H the same day.

At 1150H, the ROTC Training Staff and GMA formed the students at the CMU quadrangle for announcements regarding the upcoming 7th training day and dismissal.

The City of Malabon University (CMU) ROTC Unit, under the leadership of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, conducted its 5th training day for MS-2 students at the CMU Campus, Pampano Corner Maya-maya St., Brgy. Longos, Malabon City.

Members of the ROTC Training Staff, Graduate Military Assistant (GMA), and Cadet Officers organize the MS-2 students into a battalion formation for the accounting and attendance checking.

At 0800H, the cadets executed intensive drills, focusing on the Manual of Arms and basic facings supervised by the ROTC training staff, GMA, and cadet officers. These exercises were conducted to instill discipline, coordination, and alertness, ensuring all cadets maintained a professional military bearing and respect for their equipment.

At 1000H, COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA addressed the Fancy Drillers during their scheduled rehearsal. The Commandant provided essential technical pointers and shared an inspirational message to boost the team morale. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Basic and Advanced ROTC cadets for volunteering to represent the unit in the upcoming 3rd NCRRCDG ROTC Fancy Drill Competition (Qualifying Round) at UP Diliman, Quezon City.

By 1030H, the MS-2 students proceeded to designated classrooms for a lecture on Military History and Evolution, delivered by 1LT ALWIN VIDAL R GAPUZAN PA (RES) and 2LT MICHAEL JOHN H AQUINO PA (RES). The session utilized historical battles as tactical laboratories, allowing cadets to study strategic and technological shifts. The instruction emphasized that strategic foresight and leadership are as critical to mission success as physical force.

At 1155H, the cadets reassembled in their respective classrooms for final announcements and dismissal. Said activity ended at 1200H the same day.

City of Malabon University (CMU) ROTC Unit conducted its 4th training day for Military Science 2 (MS-2) at the CMU quadrangle, Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Longos, Malabon City.

The activity was organized by the ROTC Training Staff, Graduate Military Assistant, and Cadet Officers, led by Cpl Rogie M Lacamento (Inf) PA, Admin NCO, under the supervision of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant. The MS-2 students were formed into a battalion for accounting and checking of attendance.

At 0800H, the students performed manual of arms and pass and review exercises, supervised by Cpl Ariel P Gabriel (QMS) PA, Drill Master, to demonstrate discipline and unity.

At 0900H, the students proceeded to their designated classroom for a lecture on Followership 2, instructed by 2LT MICHAEL JOHN H AQUINO (AGS) PA (RES),1LT LUISITO M GARCIA PA (RES), Sgt Mark Jason V Balanay PA (Res), Sgt Manny Cardenas PA (Res), and Sgt Stephen P Dapulag PA (Res). The discussion focused on the roles and responsibilities of effective followers, which was followed by a lecture on Basic Military Correspondence from 1010 to 1145H, taught by 2LT MICHAEL JOHN H AQUINO (AGS) PA (RES), 1LT ALWIN VIDAL R GAPUZAN PA (RES), Sgt Mark Jason V Balanay PA (Res), and Sgt Manny Mabansag PA (Res), which oriented cadets on proper military writing and communication practices.

At 1150H, students gathered at the quadrangle for announcements on upcoming activities before dismissal, which ended at about 1200H the same day. No untoward incidents occurred during the training.

At 0700H, the City of Malabon University ROTC Unit conducted its 3rd training day for Military Science 2, held at the CMU Campus, Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Longos, and Malabon City. Members of the Training Staff, together with the Graduate Military Assistant and Cadet Officers led by CMUROTCU Admin NCO under the supervision of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, organized the MS-2 students into a battalion formation for accounting and checking of attendance.

At 0800H, the cadets have executed the manual of arms and the pass and review supervised by Cpl Ariel P Gabriel (QMS) PA, GMA, and advance cadet officers. This is to instill discipline, coordination, unison, alertness, and respect for weapons. It also teaches the cadets to act in a military manner.

At 1040H, the cadets have gone to their assigned classroom for the lecture Military Customs and Traditions 2, tackled by 1LT LUISITO M GARCIA PA (RES), Cpl Mary Jane M Pacheco PA (Res), Sgt Ryan Jay Bacani PA (Res), and Sgt Manny Cardenas PA (Res). Military customs and traditions guide cadets on proper conduct, respect, and discipline within the military organization. They preserve the heritage and values of the armed forces, promote unity and professionalism, and teach respect for authority, seniors, and fellow cadets.

At 1150H, the cadets formed at the CMU grounds for dismissal. At exactly 1200H, the cadets were dismissed and ended the 3rd training day.

The City of Malabon University ROTC Unit conducted its 1st and 2nd training days for Military Science 2, held at the CMU Campus, Pampano Corner, Maya-maya St., Brgy. Longos, Malabon City. Members of the Training Staff, together with GMA and Cadet Officers led by the Admin NCO under the supervision of COL ROMMEL M AGPAOA INF (GSC) PA, Commandant, organized the MS-2 students into a battalion formation for accounting and checking of attendance.

At 0800H, the cadets have executed basic facings and manual of arms supervised by Cpl Ariel P Gabriel (QMS) PA. Drills and ceremonies are designed to build discipline, leadership, and teamwork by requiring precise, synchronized movements. Beyond encouraging unity, these exercises build the confidence and military bearing necessary for cadets to respect authority and uphold tradition, ultimately preparing them for organized service.

After the morning activities, the cadets were given a lunch break. At 1300H, the cadets proceeded to their respective classrooms for the lectures on Personal Development and Gender and Development (GAD) Awareness and Drills and Ceremonies 2, which were tackled by 2LT MICHAEL JOHN H AQUINO (AGS) PA (RES) and Sgt Manny Cardenas PA (Res).

The purpose of these lectures is to change cadets from individual mastery to collective discipline and ethical leadership. Through Drills and Ceremonies 2, cadets develop unit synchronization and command skills, while the Gender and Development (GAD) and Personal Development lectures instill the inclusivity, character, and resilience necessary for professional service. Together, these activities build a foundation of habitual obedience, mutual respect, and the core values of honor and duty required for effective citizenship and military leadership.
