๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ | To strengthen the capacity of local health workers in detecting, verifying, reporting and responding to unusual health events, thereby contributing to the timely prevention and control of public health threats in the Municipality of Paluan, the Municipal Health Office of Paluan, together with the Provincial DOH Office and Provincial Health Office, conducted the Event-Based Surveillance Training among the RHU Staff and Selected BHWs in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, last November 26-27, 2025.
The Event-Based Surveillance and Response (ESR) training is essential to strengthen early detection of unusual health events that may signal emerging outbreaks. Many frontline health workers lack the skills to identify, triage, and verify signals such as rumors, unusual illness clusters, and unexpected deaths, leading to delays in recognizing public health threats. By teaching practical skills in spotting, confirming, quickly assessing risks, and reporting signals, ESR training improves how quickly and effectively early warning systems work. This improves outbreak preparedness, enables faster response, and ultimately protects communities from preventable health emergencies.
The training was successfully conducted under the leadership of Dr. Ruth A. Ramos, MPH, PHSAE, and Municipal Epidemiologic Surveillance Officer (MESO) Sheryl Anne Lezada, RN, with the support of Ms. Glenda D. Tria, MPH, PESO; Mr. Lawrence Edward V. Maneja, RN, MPH, SDSO; and Mr. Regieson M. Sales, RN, who served as resource speakers.
