Proud to announce Delphi surveys are now open for the Core Outcome Set development for LEptospirosis trials (COS-LEP) study. The surveys will begin to establish a consensus on which outcomes are important to consider when designing a future leptospirosis trial. Surveys take 20-25 minutes to complete, can be done on-the-go from your mobile phone, and are available in 9 languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Bahasa Malay, Burmese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog).

Surveys open particularly to

"Better late than never! 😊

We are excited to share with you our latest publication: “Sociobehavioral Factors Associated with SARS-CoV-2 Infection and COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Against Medically Attended, Symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 Infection in the Philippines: A Prospective Case-Control Study (FASCINATE-P Study).” The results revealed that healthcare workers, and individuals attending large gatherings were at higher risk. The vaccine effectiveness seemed to wane over time, suggesting a need for more effective vaccines that offer longer protection.

A big thank you to everyone who supported this study, including the staff at Philippine General Hospital and San Lazaro Hospital. Their contributions made this project possible! For research nurses, the challenges during recruitment were real, but they were worth it. Through rainy and sunny days, we continued our efforts. Despite the risk of infection in the challenging period during covid pandemic including Omicron surge, we pushed through to make the evidence available sooner.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the healthcare workers who took the time to answer our questionnaire during recruitment. Their contributions have been invaluable, and now we are proud to share the study results, which will hopefully add valuable insights to the ongoing efforts against COVID-19 as well as future outbreaks. This study represents not just scientific evidence, but the dedication and resilience of every person involved.

Maraming salamat all once again for making this happen!

In collaboration with San Lazaro Hospital (SLH), we are pleased to announce a new publication examining SARS-CoV-2 clinical outcomes and vaccine effectiveness among hospitalized patients in Manila, Philippines.

In this study, we reviewed nearly 2,000 medical charts from patients admitted before and during the Omicron period. We investigated severe clinical outcomes, including death and the need for oxygen support, comparing vaccinated versus unvaccinated patients. Our findings showed that the primary series of vaccination offered strong protection against severe clinical outcomes in both periods.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported this research, as well as all the dedicated frontliners who provided clinical care and administrative support for patients during this challenging time.

Also, I’d like to emphasize the importance of electronic medical records in facilitating timely research and generating evidence more efficiently. I recognize that our research nurses made lots of efforts to gather data from various paper sources—their hard work made this study possible!

Maraming maraming salamat po!
