Be Well Notes #121

What is Psychological Well-Being?

The Center has taken different names through the years starting from Guidance and Counseling Center to Center for Counseling and Career Services, and to Center for Counseling Services. In 2019, the Center has again appropriately evolved to become the Benilde Well-Being Center (BWC) to reflect the richness of the Center’s human resources and the range of services that it could offer and could potentially offer in the future to serve extraordinarily in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse students. More so, this is to encourage the students to avail of services promoting well-being without the stigma associated with the usual terms in mental health, psychology and counseling. The name of BWC also reflects the framework that we adhere to which is the Six-Factor Model of Psychological Well-Being by Dr. Carol Ryff (1989).

In celebration of World Mental Health Day, we invite everyone to wear green tomorrow, October 10, 2025 (Friday), as a symbol of our shared commitment to mental health awareness and support.

The color green represents hope, strength, and the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. By wearing green, we show our solidarity with those navigating mental health challenges and reaffirm our collective advocacy for a compassionate, understanding, and inclusive community.

Let’s come together as One Benildean Community - promoting care, connection, and well-being for all. 💚

Who we are...

The Benilde Well-Being Center or BWC or BeWell Center, formerly known as the Center for Counseling Services, is an integral part of Lasallian Mission and Student Life. It attends to the psychosocial and emotional well-being of Benildeans. I wish to inform you that the name change from Center for Counseling Services to Benilde Well-Being Centerwas made to make the Center more inclusive, positive, accessible, accommodating, focused on well-being and less stigmatizing.

BWC aims to provide relevant services to students, faculty and staff, including parents in a safe, caring and nurturing environment facilitated by registered guidance counselors (RGCs) through counseling individuals who are experiencing personal adjustment, career concerns, developmental and/or psychological problemsthat require professional attention.

In line with the mission of St. John Baptiste De La Salle and St. Benilde Romancon, BWC envisions Benildeans to have a sound psychological well-being manifested through the following competencies based on the Six-Factor Model of Psychological Well-Being by Dr. Carol Ryff, namely: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and a sense of personal growth.
