What is Monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a viral infection that can spread from animals to humans, and from person to person. It’s similar to smallpox but usually milder.
⸻
🦠How Do You Get It?
• Close contact with someone who has monkeypox (e.g. touching skin rashes, body fluids, or items they used like bedding or clothing)
• Contact with infected animals (like rodents or monkeys)
• Respiratory droplets (face-to-face, prolonged contact)
⸻
⚠️ Signs and Symptoms
• Fever
• Headache and body aches
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Rash (starts as flat spots, turns into blisters, then scabs over)
• Fatigue
Symptoms usually appear 5 to 21 days after exposure.
⸻
Is It Dangerous?
Monkeypox is usually mild and people recover in 2–4 weeks.
But it can be serious for children, pregnant women, or people with weak immune systems.
⸻
💊 Can It Be Treated?
• Most people get better on their own
• Medicines like antivirals may be given in severe cases
• Vaccines used for smallpox may also help protect against monkeypox
⸻
✅ What Should You Do?
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick or have unexplained rashes
• Wash hands often
• Don’t touch wild animals or their meat
• If you have symptoms, consult a doctor immediately (never google)
• Isolate if you suspect you’re infected to avoid spreading it
