For this week’s subspecialty training in ophthalmology here in Japan, we were warmly welcomed by one of the leading neuro-ophthalmologists in Japan, Dr. Ueki, and his team at the Niigata Medical University Department of Ophthalmology. We learned a lot from them and gained valuable experience in their hospital and prefecture, which will help us in managing eye diseases—especially neuro-ophthalmic conditions and strabismus—when we resume our clinic in the Philippines next year. 👁️🇯🇵

Today, together with my mentors here in Japan, Dr. Toshiaki Goseki and Dr. Hiromi Onouchi, our paper has been officially published in the Cureus Journal!
It discusses the treatment of secondary gaze diplopia and will be indexed in PubMed Central in about a month.

My goal in learning and training here in Japan is to bring advanced strabismus treatment — particularly surgical management — to the Philippines, especially in Pampanga and Central Luzon. I’m looking forward to resuming my clinic next year and helping more Filipinos with strabismus, including performing surgery when needed. 🇯🇵 🇵🇭 👁️

The past few months in Japan have been incredible! 🇯🇵👁️ I’ve had the chance to train with some of the top experts in Strabismus Surgery and Neuro-ophthalmology in Japan and Asia.

We also joined amazing conferences like the East Shizuoka Ophthalmology Conference and the 40th East Japan Neuro-ophthalmology Manazuru Conference in Tokyo—gaining knowledge and skills that we can bring back to our clinic and ophthalmic surgeries in the Philippines starting January next year.

Excited to put all this learning into practice! 💡✨🇯🇵

Thank you very much to my UST Hospital Department of Ophthalmology Family! 🙂

As mentioned in my previous post, I am currently unable to accept new patients or conduct consultations, as I am undergoing Fellowship (Subspecialty) Training here in Atami City, Japan, at the International University of Health and Welfare Hospital, under one of the top neuro-ophthalmologists and strabismus surgeons in Japan and Asia, Dr. Toshiaki Goseki.

My clinic will resume January 2, 2026. For patients who need a consultation in the meantime, kindly contact my secretaries for the schedule of my relievers. Thank you!

To all my dear patients,

For the past two years since returning home to Pampanga from the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, I have been truly grateful for your trust and confidence—especially to all the patients and families who entrusted their eye surgeries to my care.

However, from June 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, I will not be able to personally hold my regular clinics or accept new patients for surgery.

During this period, I will be undergoing sub-specialty training in Neuro-ophthalmology and Strabismus Surgery at the International University of Health and Welfare Atami Hospital in Atami City, Japan, under Dr. Toshiaki Goseki, one of Japan and Asia’s leading neuro-ophthalmologists and strabismus surgeons.

For all patients needing eye care and follow-up, my regular clinics will remain open and will be handled by my trusted ophthalmology colleagues. Kindly contact our secretaries in advance.

Thank you very much for your continued support!
