Glutes - The Body’s Largest Muscle Group.
Are you suffering from:
Lower back tightness, poor hip and pelvis stability, discomfort with walking, pain in buttocks when sitting, abnormality or instability when walking, knees tending to rotate in or not supporting you when lowering to sit/ getting up from sitting, lack of ankle stability?
You could be suffering from glute weakness or inhibition.
The role of the gluteal muscles is to stabilise the hips (Gluteus maximus) and pelvis (Gluteus medius) and keep the trunk of the body erect...... so constantly in use and so important for functionality for every day living, never mind sporting activities..
Think of the pelvis like a bowl of water, any shift side to side (due to instability or lack of control / strength) causes the water to tip out from either the front, back or side. This water tipping is the load going against the discs in the lower back.
Without the stability of these muscles, there is a mechanical overload of the pelvis, forcing the body to distribute the load elsewhere to other body parts, all resulting in deterioration in posture and opportunity for niggling injuries.
