Misconception Debunked: Breast Cancer Means Breast Loss & Disfigurement?

When a breast cancer diagnosis is made, the first reaction of many families is, “Get it removed as soon as possible.”
We fully understand this mindset—because nothing is more important than her living a healthy life.

However, at our hospital, we also frequently hear voices like these:
“Doctor, is there any alternative besides a mastectomy?”
“She cares so much about her body. Is there a gentler approach?”

We want you to know that there is more than one treatment option.
Minimally invasive breast-conserving technology can completely remove the tumor while preserving the shape of the breast.
This is not a compromise; rather, it is another option offered by modern medicine.
✅ The same tumor removal efficacy
✅ Less trauma and faster recovery
✅ Preserving her confidence and dignity

Professor Dai Wenyan, head of the breast cancer specialist team, said:
“Many patients and their families are unaware of this option. Our responsibility is to inform them of this choice and then respect their decision.”
People suitable for minimally invasive breast-conserving technology:
• Patients who wish to preserve the shape of their breast
• Families concerned about surgical trauma
• Those who want to fully understand all treatment options before making a decision

If you or someone you love is facing such a dilemma, feel free to send a private message for consultation.
Learning about one more option may bring you greater peace of mind.

Recently, we received two heartfelt letters of gratitude from OLEIH, the daughter of Jenny, a Filipino patient with lung adenocarcinoma. In the letters, OLEIH especially expressed her sincere thanks to the two translators, Zoe and Kanthy. She wrote: "Thank you for always being friendly to the family and always accommodating the very many questions and requests."💝

From admission to the entire treatment process, Zoe and Kanthy listened attentively, patiently answered questions, and did their best to address every concern. Their support brought a sense of stability and trust to OLEIH and her family during a time of uncertainty and anxiety in a foreign country.🌍

These two handwritten thank-you letters are not only an affirmation of Zoe and Kanthy's personal dedication 🙏 but also a deeply meaningful gesture ✨. They reinforce our belief that medical care is not just about professional expertise—it is about connecting hearts ❤️ and providing compassionate support to help patients heal both physically and emotionally 🌟.

We thank OLEIH and her family for their trust 🤝 and for sharing their story, and we extend our gratitude to every colleague 👥 for their heartfelt efforts in their roles. Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital will continue striving to provide warm, high-quality medical services to more patients 🏥💪.

Healing Under the Full Moon: A Cross-Border Lantern Festival Celebration 🏮🌕

On the day of the Lantern Festival, as the first full moon of the new year illuminated the sky, Guangzhou Cancer Hospital hosted a special event for its international patients, bringing the warmth of Chinese traditions to those far from home 🏥❤️.

The venue was festively decorated with red lanterns 🏮, under which bilingual riddles attracted curious participants 🤔. A Russian patient 🇷🇺, after learning through translation that his guessed answer was correct, lit up with childlike delight 😊✨.

At the tangyuan station 🍡, the sweet aroma drew a crowd 👃. As staff explained that these glutinous rice balls symbolize a sweet and fulfilling year ahead 🥰, many patients eagerly tried their hand at making them. Despite the guidance, the results were often amusing—some produced oval shapes 🥚, others accidentally made giant rice dumplings 🍙—sparking laughter and camaraderie among participants 😂🤝.

Nearby, the pitch-pot game saw enthusiastic participation 🎯. One patient's successful throw drew cheers 🎉, highlighting the lighthearted joy of the moment 💫.
As the familiar melody of an old Chinese song filled the air 🎶, many joined in softly. In this warm atmosphere, the burdens of illness seemed momentarily lifted 🌈. The event embodied the hospital's “Healing Health” philosophy, bringing hope and love to illuminate the cancer journey 🎗️💖.

🎗️Breast Cancer: Treatment Options for Advanced Stage in Elderly Patients🏥

🤔Q: My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer stage IV. She is in her 70s and also has heart disease. The local hospital is hesitant to perform surgery. Are there any effective treatment options available?

👩‍⚕️A: For elderly patients with advanced-stage cancer and complicating health conditions such as heart disease, minimally invasive treatments can be a highly suitable alternative to traditional surgery. One such advanced option is Combined Knife Ablation therapy.

Combined knife is ultra-fine cold and hot composite ablation, the ablation probe is only about 2 mm, and the tumor is killed by alternating cold and heat at -196 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius inside the tumor, usually within 20-25 minutes,⏱️ the tumor will quickly coagulate and die, and apoptosis, for patients with distant metastases, multi-knife ablation can be performed, and for the weaker advanced elderly patients, the treatment effect and prognosis are very good.

【Good News】 Professor Dai Wenyan from Our Hospital Was Invited to Participate in China’s First Expert Consensus on Breast Cancer Ablation!

Recently, the “Expert Consensus on Ablation Therapy for Breast Cancer Without Surgical Indications (2025 Edition)”, jointly formulated by multiple authoritative medical institutions in China, was officially released. Professor Dai Wenyan, Director of the Breast Tumor Specialty Center at our hospital, served as a member of the expert panel and played a pivotal role in drafting this groundbreaking “first-of-its-kind” industry standard in China!

▶ What does this “Consensus” entail?
It offers a scientific and standardized new approach for breast cancer patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo traditional open surgery.
By employing ablation techniques such as radiofrequency, microwave, and cryoablation, cancer cells can be precisely “scorched” or “frozen” to death using fine needles, resulting in minimal trauma, rapid recovery, and preservation of breast contour.

▶ Breast cancer treatment is moving towards greater precision and humanity.
From technology introduction to process optimization, and from clinical exploration to standardization—this progress is the result of years of dedicated research and efforts by our hospital's breast cancer specialty team, led by Professor Dai Wenyan. Step by step, they have successfully implemented the concept of minimally invasive treatment.

Professor Dai’s invitation to lead the development of this national consensus underscores the professional strength of our hospital’s breast cancer specialty team, which has been fully recognized by China’s authoritative academic platforms and has achieved a nationally acknowledged level of medical excellence.

As Professor Dai said, “With minimal trauma and improved quality of life, we aim to help patients overcome the disease while maintaining their physical integrity and confident smiles.” Moving forward, we will continue to utilize this “Consensus” to safeguard the health and beauty of more patients!
