September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month!

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men in the Philippines, but the good news is it’s highly curable if found early. Many cases don’t show symptoms at first, which is why regular check-ups and screening are important.

A simple PSA blood test can help detect prostate cancer early, when treatment works best. Doctors recommend men with average risk to start screening at age 50.

talked about cancer screening today at CGH IM post grad ☺️ ano nga ba ang cancer screening?

‼️Ang cancer screening ay isang proseso ng pagsusuri o pag-detect ng cancer bago pa man lumabas ang sintomas. Goal is to detect cancer early para mas magamot ang sakit at mas mataas ang survival.

Mga halimbawa ng cancer screening:
🎯Breast cancer → Mammogram
🎯Cervical cancer → Pap smear, HPV testing
🎯Colore**al cancer → colonoscopy
🎯Lung cancer (high-risk smokers) → Low-dose CT scan

👉 Hindi lahat ng cancer ay may recommended screening test (e.g pancreatic, ovarian), kasi minsan hindi pa proven na nakakapagpababa ng mortality ang screening.

⚠️Tandaan: Ang screening ay dapat nakaayon sa risk profile ng pasyente (edad, family history, lifestyle, genetic factors)

Ang surveillance ay ang regular na follow-up sa mga pasyenteng gumaling na mula sa cancer, upang maagang matukoy kung may pagbabalik ng sakit, pagkalat (metastasis), o panibagong kanser

ano po included sa surveillance? for this case colon cancer po ang case nya:
🎯 check up with labs every 3 months first 3-5 yrs
🎯 ct scan (chest and abdomen) every 6 months
🎯 colonoscopy 1 year after the surgery

bakit importante ang surveillance?
‼️Karaniwang bumabalik ang colon cancer sa loob ng unang 2–3 taon matapos ang paggaling.

‼️Kung maagang makita ang pagbabalik ng cancer, maaari pa itong magamot muli.
