(Animal Welfare And Rights
Concept Paper
INTRODUCTION:
the good relationship between humans and animals has been imprinted. For some, animals as pets have been considered members of their family. In fact, there are pet-owners who celebrate the birthdays of their pet, build a cozy home, provide comfort and care, feed with nutritious foods, and mourn for their death. Undeniably, pets have given us therapeutic effects and for instance, dogs are even considered man's best friend. Unfortunately, not all animals are given the same care and attention. Some animals may sometimes be abandoned and experience cruelty in the hands of humans. But, do these devious individuals know that animals too have emotions, and they also want to live as they have families that wait for their return? Every scolding and maltreatment pain them up to their bones because they know how to feel and they also care. Animal cruelty and pet neglect are considered to be criminal offenses. Fur mommies and concerned citizens must not turn a blind eye because these loyal and loving creatures cannot protect themselves.
DESCRIPTION:
Animal welfare and rights theories accept that animals have interests but allow these interests to be traded away as long as there are some human benefits that are thought to justify that sacrifice.
Animal rights means that animals, like humans, have interests that cannot be sacrificed or traded away just because it might benefit others. However, the rights position does not hold that rights are absolute; an animal’s rights, just like those of humans, must be limited, and rights can certainly conflict. Animal rights means that animals are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, or experimentation. Animal welfare allows these uses as long as “humane” guidelines are followed.
