The visit of Department of Health Undersecretary Dr. Gregorio Murillo and DOH–CHD Caraga Regional Director Dr. Sadaila Raki-in to Marihatag District Hospital marked a significant show of support for the institution’s continuing growth and service to the community. During the visit, both officials expressed their commitment to assist the hospital, with priority given to infrastructure development and the provision of additional medical equipment to further improve patient comfort and quality of care.
This commitment is especially timely in light of the hospital’s consistently high Bed Occupancy Rate over the past three years, recorded at 204% in 2023, 203% in 2024, and 205% in 2025, reflecting the increasing number of patients seeking care at Marihatag District Hospital.
In addition, the officials committed support for the acquisition of an additional X-ray machine and ultrasound unit, which will greatly aid physicians in the timely and accurate diagnosis of diseases, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and service efficiency.

The General Orientation for the new policies and update to all staff of Marihatag District Hospital was successfully conducted on January 9 for Batch 1 and 13 for Batch 2 at Marihatag Tree Park and Resort. The program opened with an insightful discussion by the Chief of Hospital Dr. Edmund L. Lamela focusing on the purpose and meaning of each staff member’s role and commitment to serving Marihatag District Hospital and the community.
This was followed by sessions on General Hospital Policies, including the signing of agreements by Ms. Ergen P. Bucong, RSW, the orientation on Individual Performance Commitment and Review (IPCR) by Mr. Andy C. Dillote, LPT- the Hospital Administrator, and the re-orientation on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) by Ms. Thessa Amor Espinoza, RN, MAN- Chairman of IPC Committee.

In the afternoon, participants attended the Customer Service Orientation facilitated by Hon. Elpedio L. Lamela, Jr., JD, the Sangguniang Bayan Member of LGU Marihatag emphasizing professionalism, compassion, and patient-centered care, followed by a lecture on Healthcare Waste Management delivered by Mr. Henri Roy C. Orbeta, Solid Waste Officer of LGU Marihatag, highlighting proper waste segregation and environmental responsibility.
The orientation concluded with the Commitment Wall activity, where staff members posted their personal pledges to their patients, co-workers, and themselves—affirming their dedication to quality service, teamwork, and continuous improvement at Marihatag District Hospital.
