The SuperKids Team gathered last March 25, 2026 (Wednesday) for another meaningful step in our journey of continuous learning, growth, and collaboration. ๐
In this third session, we further deepened our understanding of Autism through a more relationship-based and sensory-informed lens. We explored how a childโs sensory processing, day-to-day experiences, emotional state, and arousal levels significantly impact their ability to engage, regulate, and participate in tasks.
By intentionally putting ourselves in the childโs place, we gained a clearer perspective on how overwhelming sensory input or internal discomfort can affect behavior, attention, and emotional responsesโoften leading to difficulty in following activities. This reinforced the importance of meeting the child where they are, rather than expecting immediate compliance.
A key focus of the session was attunementโlearning how to connect by following the childโs lead and using their natural interests to build joint attention, engagement, and trust. ๐ฑ Through attuned interactions, we create opportunities for meaningful connection that support both developmental and emotional growth.
We also emphasized practicing โgoodness of fitโ in every interaction:
โจ Recognizing and validating the childโs unique experiences
โจ Acknowledging and tolerating their fears and big emotions
โจ Co-regulating and containing moments of distress with calm, supportive presence
โจ Allowing space for the child to safely explore, initiate, and play independently
โจ Adjusting our approach to match the childโs needs, not the other way around
This session reminded us that therapy is not just about teaching skillsโit is about building secure relationships, fostering safety, and nurturing the childโs sense of self. ๐ค Together, we continue to grow as professionalsโbecoming more intentional, reflective, and compassionate in every interaction we create. ๐ซ
