ACCESS 2 Health Sector Exploratory Meeting with LGU Matanog

The ACCESS 2 project, led by CARE Philippines in partnership with Humanity & Inclusion, Action Against Hunger, Save the Children, Oxfam Pilipinas, Plan International, ACCORD, Community Organizers Multiversity, and other local NGOs, held an exploratory meeting at the Humanity & Inclusion Office in Cotabato City with the LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Department.

The meeting aimed to help the LGU partner agencies better understand the process of delivering health services in Matanog through its government systems. It also included discussions on the possible support that partner NGOs may provide to improve health services and humanitarian assistance for the people of Matanog.

The ACCESS 2 project (April 2025–March 2027), funded by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), continues to support vulnerable communities in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, including the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, by providing humanitarian aid, disaster preparedness, and health services to underserved populations.

Joint LHB and MNC Monthly Meeting for February Successfully Held

The Joint Local Health Board (LHB) and Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) Monthly Meeting for the month of February was successfully conducted, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss important health and nutrition updates in the municipality.

The meeting aimed to review ongoing programs, monitor progress, and strengthen collaboration among offices and partners in delivering quality health and nutrition services to the community.

Technical Support and Monitoring Meeting for Operation Timbang

Another meeting with the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of Matanog and the assigned Nutritionist, Ma’am Cristine, was conducted last week to continuously monitor the progress of the Operation Timbang implementation in the municipality. The meeting aimed to assess the status of the ongoing weighing activities and to prepare for the next step, which is the encoding of the collected data.

During the session, all BNS were carefully guided and provided with technical assistance to ensure that the encoding process will be done properly and efficiently. Practical instructions and clarifications were also given to help them easily facilitate the encoding of the data gathered from their respective barangays.

This initiative reflects the continuous commitment of the nutrition program to ensure accurate data collection, proper documentation, and timely submission of Operation Timbang results, which are essential in identifying the nutritional status of children and in strengthening nutrition interventions in the community.

February Monthly Meeting of Barangay Nutrition Scholars

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of Matanog held their monthly meeting for February to coordinate and plan activities that ensure quality nutrition services for our community.

The meeting started with checking and reviewing accomplishment reports from each barangay. This helped identify progress, challenges, and areas for improvement, while also making sure all activities are properly documented.

The team also discussed preparation and tasking for the upcoming Convergence Activity. Roles and responsibilities were assigned, and logistics. Beneficiaries were carefully selected, with the service focusing on persons with disabilities (PWD), senior citizens, and malnourished children, ensuring that those most in need are prioritized.

Updates were shared on the ongoing Operation Timbang, including coverage, identified possible malnourished children, and strategies to reach areas with low participation. Challenges were addressed, and solutions were discussed to improve turnout and data accuracy.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for teamwork, learning, and collaboration among our dedicated BNS. Through proper planning, monitoring, and united efforts, we continue working to improve the health and nutrition of every child and vulnerable member of our community.

Nutrition Services Reached Sitio Kalipapa

Today, the On-the-Spot Operation Timbang was successfully conducted at Sitio Kalipapa, bringing important health and nutrition services directly to the community.

Along with the weighing of children, medicines were given to the parents of children aged 0–59 months, helping support the health and well-being of our young beneficiaries.

Even on a holiday, our hardworking nutrition workers continued their duties, showing their dedication to serving the children of Matanog.

This activity was made possible through the support and efforts of the LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Department, together with the 8 committed Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).

Special thanks also go to Kagawad Titing Didatu and the Rescue Car of Brgy. Bugasan Sur for assistance, and Brgy. Chairman of Sapad Ma’am, Raiza Ibay, for her continuous support.

Through teamwork and community support, we continue to make sure every child in Matanog gets the care and nutrition they need.

Unity in Service: LGU Matanog and Provincial Government Convergence Program

Yesterday, the LGU Matanog under the leadership of Mayor Zohria, successfully carried out the Community Outreach Program: Nutrition Education and Hygiene Promotion for Children and Caregivers in partnership with the Province of Maguindanao del Norte, led by Governor Datu Tucao O. Mastura,CPA.

Guided by the provincial tagline **DTOM – Development, Transformation, and Opportunity for Maguindanao del Norte**, this convergence initiative delivered essential government services directly to communities, particularly those in need.

Key services included medical and dental consultations, free medicines, eye screening and reading glasses, buntis kits, breast cancer screening, legal assistance, agricultural and veterinary support, distribution of school supplies, disaster preparedness awareness, nutrition education (Ugnayang Nanay), hygiene kit distribution, and real property tax information under RA 12001.

The activity benefited pregnant mothers, Grade 1–3 pupils, farmers, pet owners, PWDs, senior citizens, and malnourished children in Matanog.

The LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Department, together with our Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), proudly spearheaded the preparation and implementation of this activity. We also sincerely thank RHU Matanog for their strong support in disseminating information and assisting in the identification and mobilization of beneficiaries, which greatly contributed to the success of the program.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to all stakeholders who made this convergence activity possible. Together, we remain committed to serving the people of Matanog with dedication and compassion.

LGU Matanog Leads Immediate Medical and Rescue Response in Langkong

Early this morning, while on our way to work, a road accident occurred within the municipality.
The LGU Matanog Health Department immediately extended assistance to the victims, with the BLGU and BNS of Langkong joining the immediate rescue efforts.

Through the prompt action and leadership of our Municipal Mayor, the injured individual was swiftly brought to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) for initial management and was subsequently transferred to the nearest referral hospital for further treatment.

This swift and coordinated response highlights the strong collaboration between the Municipal Government, the Health Department, and the Barangay Local Government Unit in ensuring timely emergency assistance. The LGU Matanog remains committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of its constituents, especially during emergencies.

JOINT LOCAL HEALTH BOARD (LHB) AND MUNICIPAL NUTRITION COMMITTEE (MNC)
MONTHLY MEETING

The Joint Monthly Meeting of the Local Health Board (LHB) and the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) was successfully conducted and yielded productive and meaningful discussions. The meeting was actively participated in by members of both committees, reflecting a strong and united commitment to further strengthen health and nutrition programs in the Municipality of Matanog.

During the meeting, updates on the LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Programs were presented. This included a detailed discussion on the Operation Timbang Plus (OPT), highlighting the challenges encountered during implementation as well as the good practices and strategies successfully adopted by different barangays. These insights served as a valuable basis for improving program delivery and addressing gaps in nutrition services.

The committee also discussed the status and implementation of the MRSIA Program, focusing on strategies to reduce maternal risks and ensure timely and appropriate care for pregnant women. In line with this, the Safe Motherhood Program (SMP) was reviewed, emphasizing maternal and child health services, prenatal and postnatal care, and the importance of safe delivery practices within the community.

Updates on previously passed resolutions were likewise presented to assess progress, ensure proper implementation, and identify necessary actions for sustained program effectiveness. Additionally, the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Program was discussed, highlighting ongoing efforts in prevention, early detection, and management of lifestyle-related diseases through health education, screening, and community-based interventions.

We sincerely thank all committee members for their active participation. Special thanks to our Barangay Chairmen, headed by our ABC President, for their full support and continued commitment to health and nutrition programs

Overall, the meeting strengthened collaboration among stakeholders and reaffirmed the shared goal of improving the health and nutrition status of the people of Matanog through coordinated planning, implementation, and continuous support.

TURNOVER OF MEDICINES AND ANTHROPOMETRIC TOOLS TO RHU MATANOG

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donor of medicines, the Office of Former MP Tarhata M. Maglangit, in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) – BARMM and the Bangsamoro Women for Peace & Development, Inc. (BMWEPDI), for their invaluable support to the LGU Matanog’s Health and Nutrition Department and Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Matanog.

We also sincerely thank our committed partners from the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) under the governance of the Ministry of Health – BARMM, with the support of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) – Maguindanao, and in partnership with UNICEF Philippines. This initiative is further strengthened by nutrition commodities provided by the Provincial Nutrition Department of Maguindanao del Norte.

This turnover of medicines and anthropometric tools will greatly help improve the delivery of both health and nutrition services of RHU Matanog, enabling them to better serve the people of Matanog,especially mothers, children, and other vulnerable sectors of the community.

Our first batch of beneficiaries for the free surgical operation for cleft lip and cleft palate patients has been sent to Davao City.

This life-changing initiative is made possible through the leadership and support of Mayor Zohria and Vice Mayor Sanaira, in partnership with the Maharlika Charity Foundation Inc. (MCFI).
