MiNEN
(Mixed Neuroendocrine–Non-Neuroendocrine Neoplasm)

MiNEN is a rare type of tumor that contains both neuroendocrine and non-neuroendocrine components, each constituting at least 30% of the tumor mass.

Treatment and prognosis will be dictated by the MORE AGGRESSIVE component.

Early referral to a medical oncologist for early systemic treatment is warranted as these cancers carry a worse prognosis than their pure counterparts.

APPROACH TO A PALPABLE BREAST MASS
3rd Yr CM Oncology Module 2025

Key Points:
1. Not all breast lesions are cancerous, but cancer should be ruled out.
2. Standard imaging modalities that are initially requested are breast ultrasound and mammogram. Sometimes, breast MRI or a PET CT scan may be requested depending on the scenario.
3. Once a specimen is obtained, ER PR HER2 is always tested to guide treatment.
4. Always consult with a medical oncologist since treatment of breast cancer is always MULTIDISCIPLINARY regardless of stage.
