Transfusion Transmissible Infections - National Reference Laboratory The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine is the designated National Reference Laboratory of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.

Transfusion Transmissible Infections - National Reference Laboratory Mandates:

1. Provide confirmation of reactive blood donor and blood units. All blood units found to be reactive to the five (5) Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTIs), namely; Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis and Malaria are sent for confirmation.

2. Provide Quality Assurance and identify areas for improvement on technical procedures and kit performance.

3. Provide recommendations and strategies to ensure safety of blood supply.

4. Provide technical training to NVBSP-Blood Service Facilities Medical Technologists on testing for Transfusion-Transmitted Infections.

5. Provide evaluation of test performance primarily for kits used by the NVBSP Blood Service Facilities.

6. Conduct research to provide data to refine or improve the quality testing among NVBSP Blood Service Facilities.
