𝐁𝐌𝐂 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐀𝐌𝐑)

BMC recently observed the 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗠𝗥) 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 from November 19-27, 2025. This institutional initiative focused on educating healthcare personnel, patients, and the general public on the responsible use of antimicrobials—specifically antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals.

This vital effort is a key step in preventing the spread of drug-resistant infections and safeguarding the health of our Bicolano community.

Informative exhibits in the 8-Storey and Gabaldon Buildings showcased infographics and multimedia resources on antimicrobial safety. Alongside these displays, health education sessions were held, providing patients and their visitors with practical guidance on the proper use of medications.

The week culminated on November 27, 2025, with a CPD-accredited webinar titled “Building Defenses: The Multidisciplinary Effort to Control Antimicrobial Resistance.” Attended by both clinical and non-clinical personnel, the session featured insights from a distinguished panel of experts:

This successful initiative is made possible through the collaboration between the Infection Prevention and Control Unit (IPCU) in partnership with IMISS, the Pharmacy and Microbiology Sections, and the Professional Education, Training, and Research Units (PETRU) and Nursing PETRU.

We are proud to celebrate the success of the BMC Thrive Support Group in 2025, an initiative made possible through the dedication of the Medical Social Worker Department in partnership with HACT Unit.

Throughout the year, the support group has provided a supportive and empowering space for participants to connect, share experiences, and build resilience. The positive growth, strengthened support networks, and inspiring progress seen among members reflect the true impact of teamwork and compassionate care.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the Medical Social Worker Department, HACT Unit, and all participants for their commitment and trust.

Here’s to continuing to uplift, empower, and help one another thrive in the years ahead.

💚 The 𝗕𝗠𝗖 𝗛𝗔𝗖𝗧 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 is a structured psychosocial support program facilitated by dedicated BMC social workers for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). It was implemented in two batches this year, with the first batch running from January to June and the second from July to December.

Participants attend one to two sessions per month. Each session lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours.

The program provides a safe and supportive space for participants to share experiences, build resilience, and enhance overall well-being.

In celebration of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Week 2025, held from July 7 to 11, 2025, the Infection Prevention and Control Unit (IPCU) organized a series of meaningful activities aimed at raising awareness, educating healthcare personnel, and promoting best practices in infection prevention.
With the theme “IPC CHAMPIONS: LEADING THE WAY TO SAFER HEALTHCARE,” the week-long observance brought together healthcare professionals and staff to reinforce their roles in minimizing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and combating antimicrobial resistance.

Day 1: The IPCU officially kicked off IPC Week by hosting the Flag Ceremony on July 7, 2025 in collaboration with IDTM, HESU and Bicol Medical Center HACT

AWARDEES:
1st- Central Supply and Sterilization Department
2nd- Emergency Room Department
3rd- Regional Orthopedic Center
4th- Communicable Disease Ward
5th- Surgery Ward

A special awarding ceremony was held to honor nurses who have significantly contributed to the development, growth, and success of the IPCU namely, Wilhelmina C. De Castro, RN, MAN, MDM (Nurse VII/Chief Nurse), Sherill Anne M. Nepomuceno, RN, Ph.D (Nurse VI/Asst. Chief Nurse), Marilou P. Valencia, RN, MAN, Ph.D, JD (Nurse VI/Asst. Chief Nurse), Henry V. Prestado, RN (Nurse V/Department of Psychiatry), & Ms. Maria Josefina Ros, RN (Nurse IV/HESU&IDTM).
These individuals were recognized not only for their technical skills and compliance with standards, but also for their unwavering passion, leadership, and advocacy that have shaped the culture of safety and infection prevention within the institution.

- Distribution of plastic containers, a designated containment and disinfection unit for used patient-care equipment.

Day 2-3: On July 8-9, 2025 the IPCU held a 2-day seminar-workshop titled: “Seminar-Workshop for Nurses on Hospital Infection Prevention and Control.” with credited 8 CPD units.

Day 4: (IDCP) meeting on July 10, Dr. Cherry Pinky Budao presented the latest updates on the facility’s Antibiogram. The session provided valuable insights into local antimicrobial resistance trends and guided clinicians on empiric antibiotic choices.

The BMC Main Hospital's Out-Patient Department (OPD), Rehabilitation Medicine, Cancer Center, BUCAS (DSJRMMH), and the Out-Patient Department at the Department of Psychiatry (DSJRMMH), Brgy. Cadlan, Pili, Cam. Sur will be closed on Tuesday August 26, 2025.

This is pursuant to the Office of the President Memorandum Circular No. 94 in view of the forecasted heavy rainfall that will be brought by the LPA and Southwest Monsoon in some provinces including Camarines Sur.

NOTE: As a DOH-retained hospital, BMC's wards and Emergency Department will still operate 24/7.

This is pursuant to Office of the President Memorandum Circular No. 90 dated July 22, 2025, which declares the suspension of work in government offices and classes in selected areas, including Camarines Sur, due to continuous heavy rainfall brought about by the Southwest Monsoon.

NOTE: As a DOH-retained hospital, BMC's wards and Emergency Department will still operate 24/7.
