STRENGTHENING NEONATAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE: ENHANCING COMPETENCY THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE NEONATAL RESUSCITATION TRAINING PROGRAM

The Neonatal Center of Bicol Medical Center successfully conducted the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) on September 4–5, 2025 at the Lotus Blu Hotel Function Hall. With the theme “Strengthening Neonatal Emergency Response: Enhancing Competency through a Comprehensive Neonatal Resuscitation Training Program”, the training aimed to strengthen the competencies of healthcare providers in managing neonatal emergencies, ensuring timely and effective interventions for newborns in critical conditions.

The program was facilitated by distinguished experts from the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine (PSNbM), namely Dr. Elsie Lizette D. Urbino-Fernandez, Dr. Liza Marie P. Bejemino, Dr. Leslie Anne Q. Moises, Dr. Nicole Rosalie M. Matilac, Dr. Donna T. Rances, Dr. Mary Ann Cyril Mesalucha and Ms. Julie Jaynney Caparas , who served as trainers and resource speakers. Their expertise and commitment provided participants with updated knowledge and hands-on skills essential for effective neonatal resuscitation.

A total of 50 participants attended the program, consisting of 4 pediatric residents and 33 nursing personnel from different areas of Bicol Medical Center, as well as 13 participants from institutions such as Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH), Bicol Regional General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center (BRGHGMC), Naga Imaging Center Cooperative (NICC) and Universidad de Sta. Isabel Health Services Department, all of the mentioned hospitals are providing care to neonatal patients.

Through this activity, participants were equipped with evidence-based practices, teamwork strategies, and critical decision-making skills needed to deliver immediate and appropriate care to newborns. The successful conduct of this program reflects BMC’s continuing commitment to advancing neonatal care and fostering collaborations to improve newborn survival outcomes.
