📣📣LOOK: The Medical Social Work Department recently hosted a highly successful in-house training on the WCPU Protocol and Trauma-Focused Social Work Counseling, conducted in two batches on November 20-21, 2025 and December 4-5, 2025, respectively held at the RCC Conference Room, Bicol Medical Center. This comprehensive program empowered all 40 Medical Social Workers of the department with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills essential for addressing the specialized needs of varied clienteles in the hospital setting. The sessions fostered a deep dive and understanding of the designed topics and enhancing the team’s capability to deliver effective interventions.

We were honored to have distinguished speakers, including Dr. Jelica Mira A. Clavecilla, the hospital’s current WCPU specialist, who shared invaluable insights based on her extensive training and experience. Additionally, Ms. Gemma Teresa DC. Mijares, MSSW, a respected social work faculty, enriched the training with her expertise on trauma-focused counseling techniques. Their contributions greatly enriched the learning experience, equipping participants with evidence-based approaches crucial for providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to vulnerable populations.

📣📣LOOK: The successful roll-out training on administering the Psychosocial Assessment Tool for Children and Elderly was held in two batches for Medical Social Workers on April 5 and April 12, 2025, respectively. This training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively conduct psychosocial assessments, which are crucial in identifying the needs and challenges faced by vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.

The sessions were carefully structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. The day began with a detailed lecture that laid the foundation for understanding the assessment tool. Participants were introduced to the key concepts and techniques involved in psychosocial assessments. The lecture emphasized the importance of empathy, active listening, and professional judgment in gathering and interpreting sensitive information.

Following the lecture, participants took part in a practicum where they conducted real interviews with assigned cases in the wards. This hands-on experience was invaluable, enabling Medical Social Workers to apply theoretical knowledge and hone their interviewing techniques in a supervised environment.

The training culminated with case presentations, where participants shared their findings and reflected on their assessments, fostering collaborative learning and reinforcing best practices. Overall, the one-day training, in two different batches, was a successful step toward improving comprehensive psychosocial care for children and elderly patients of Bicol Medical Center. ♥️
