Physical therapy for a dislocated elbow
Most patients will need to keep their arm in a sling after the elbow has been put back into place, however it is typically recommended that patients immediately begin physical therapy exercises to ensure the elbow won’t freeze due to immobility.

Physical therapy for a dislocated elbow will focus on relieving pain, restoring range of motion, increasing strength, and improving posture. Common strategies include icing, passive motion work, electrical stimulation, gentle exercises, and postural training.

Stroke often causes paralysis on one side of the body, which means patients lose function in one arm and one leg. In the first weeks and months of recovery, physical therapists work with stroke patients to keep these muscles toned and stimulated even before they regain voluntary movement. If and when function does return, physical therapy allows patients to relearn everyday skills and retrain their healthy brain cells to control the affected body parts.

Physical therapists are able to stimulate affected muscles and nerves to maintain circulation and prevent stiffness, then guide patients through the stages of stroke recovery as they relearn basic muscle movements.

Physical therapists specialize in stroke and other types of neurological trauma and know how to help patients relearn complex bodily movements and avoid complications that could derail their progress later. After stroke, improving your balance, coordination, and other basic skills are essential to your overall quality of life.

Overusing your knees can worsen your joint health and knee osteoarthritis, but the less you move your knees, the weaker they can get. You need to find that balance of keeping your knee joints moving just enough so they're strong and healthy, and physical therapy helps you do that. With knee OA, the muscles surrounding the knee can become weak, and the knee joints can become stiff. This makes it difficult to do everyday tasks, such as walking or getting out of bed.

Physical therapy can help to reduce the pain, swelling, and stiffness of knee osteoarthritis, and it can help improve knee joint function. It can also make it easier for you to walk, bend, kneel, squat, and sit. In fact, a combination of manual physical therapy and supervised exercise has functional benefits for patients with knee osteoarthritis and may delay or prevent the need for surgery.
