At Adaptabilities Therapy Center, our Special Education (SPED) Program is at the heart of our commitment to help every child learn, grow, and thrive according to their individual needs. 💛

Our SPED teachers play a vital role in creating personalized learning experiences that foster not only academic growth, but also emotional regulation, social interaction, and independence in daily life.

💬 What makes our SPED program truly holistic is the collaborative work between our SPED teachers, Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs). 🧠✨ Why does my child keep rocking, flapping, or spinning?

These repetitive movements, also known as stimming, are not just habits — they are powerful tools for self-regulation. Children stim to calm down, express excitement, or cope with overwhelming environments.

💬 Instead of thinking “How do I stop this?”
Try asking: “What is my child trying to tell me through this behavior?”

👶 Stimming can look different for every child:
✔️ Rocking back and forth
✔️ Lining up toys
✔️ Repeating sounds
✔️ Jumping or spinning
✔️ Watching lights flicker

If a stim becomes unsafe or disruptive, it’s not about removing it — it’s about finding a safe, meaningful alternative that still meets the sensory need.
