This initiative is led by the Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP), in partnership with the Department of Health (Philippines) โ€“ Epidemiology Bureau, and UNAIDS Philippines.

For the last quarter of 2025 (Oct - Dec), the average number of individuals getting HIV per day in the Philippines is at 47. Individuals whose age ranges between 15 to 34 years old have the highest numbers in getting HIV. But we should not also forget those 35 years old and above because they too are also getting infected. Send a message to the centre to know where to get tested and how HIV test is being done.

How To Succefully Have HIV Negative Baby Whilst Been Positive

โ€‹It all starts with the journey of conception, whether through unprotected s*x or artificial insemination. Once an HIV-positive woman conceives, it is important to understand the risks. Without any intervention, the risk of passing the virus to the child is about 5% during pregnancy.

To eliminate this risk, the mother must take her "sweets" (ART) consistently. When the mother is undetectable, the chances of passing the virus reduce drastically. Sexual partners should also stay consistent with their ART if positive, or use PrEP if negative, to keep the environment safe.

โ€‹A woman needs a valid Viral Load (VL) result at her first antenatal booking and should repeat the test every 3 months throughout the pregnancy. Most importantly, the mother needs a fresh VL result at least 4 weeks before delivery.

During delivery, the risk is also about 5% due to potential injuries and the exchange of blood. This is why we insist on hospital deliveries; skilled midwives use specific techniques to ensure a smooth birth and protect the baby, which is a key advantage for those on treatment.

โ€‹During breastfeeding, the risk can increase up to 10% if the virus is not controlled. However, good adherence and constant VL monitoring keep the baby safe.

We encourage mothers to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months. Some mothers choose to extend breastfeeding for up to 2 years, which is possible as long as the mother maintains an undetectable viral load and the child is strictly monitored through regular testing and HIV prevention medication (prophylaxis).

โ€‹By following these stepsโ€”consistent ART, regular viral load checks, hospital delivery, and safe breastfeeding practicesโ€”we can ensure that being HIV positive does not stop you from having a beautiful, HIV-negative child. Thousands of healthy babies are born to positive mothers every year because of these measures.

โœŠOn February 25, we commemorate the People Power Revolution in the Philippines. We remember that democracy isnโ€™t only defended in courts, elections, or institutions, it is also defended in our stories, performances, images, and gatherings. Art is the lifeline of democracy and human rights because it gives freedom, suffering, and community--messages that are often difficult to articulate--a shape people can feel and recognize, crossing seas and borders. It turns memory into something we can carry, and justice into something we can imagine.

Across Southeast Asia, where civic spaces can be fragile and histories are often contested, art and culture help us stay connected when authoritarians try to isolate, divide, and control. They keep hope public. They build empathy across borders. They remind us that dignity is collective.

Weโ€™re glad to partner with FORUM-Asia and the Asia Democracy Network as we continue strengthening solidarity through culture, because creating and experiencing art is revolutionary: it refuses erasure, insists on our humanity, and keeps the hope of a just future alive.
