Every woman and their baby deserves safe, respectful care.
Yet, mistreatment during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period remains far too common in many parts of the world.
It doesnโ€™t have to be this way.
Dignity, equity and respect must be part of every aspect of maternal and newborn care.

ardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Is an emergency medical procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to help restore blood circulation and breathing in a person who has stopped breathing or whose heart has stopped beating. Here's a comprehensive overview:
When to Perform CPR:
1. Cardiac arrest: When a person's heart stops beating suddenly.
2. Respiratory arrest: When a person stops breathing.
3. Near-drowning: When a person is submerged in water and stops breathing.
4. Choking: When a person's airway is blocked.
CPR Steps:
1. Call for help: Call 911 or your local emergency number.
2. Check the scene: Make sure the area is safe for both you and the person in distress.
3. Check the person: Tap the person's shoulder and ask if they're okay. If they're unresponsive, start CPR.
4. Start compressions: Place the heel of one hand on the center of the person's chest, and the other hand on top of the first hand. Push down 2-3 inches deep at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.
5. Give breaths: After 30 compressions, give two breaths. Pinch the person's nose shut and give one breath through their mouth. Each breath should last about one second and make the person's chest rise.
6. Continue cycles: Continue alternating between 30 compressions and two breaths until emergency medical personnel arrive.
CPR Techniques:
1. Hands-only CPR: Some organizations recommend hands-only CPR for adults, which involves only chest compressions without breaths.
2. CPR with breaths: This traditional method involves both chest compressions and rescue breaths.
CPR Certification:
Many organizations offer CPR certification courses, which teach individuals how to perform CPR correctly. These courses often cover topics like:
1. CPR techniques
2. Automated external defibrillator (AED) use
3. Choking relief
4. CPR in special situations (e.g., infants, children)
*Importance of CPR:
1. Saves lives: CPR can help restore blood circulation and breathing, increasing the chances of survival.
2. Reduces brain damage: CPR can help minimize brain damage by maintaining blood flow to the brain.
3. Increases chances of successful resuscitation: CPR can increase the chances of successful resuscitation by emergency medical personnel.
Common Questions:
1. How long should CPR be performed?: CPR should be continued until emergency medical personnel arrive or the person shows signs of regaining consciousness.
2. Can CPR be performed on anyone?: CPR can be performed on anyone who is unresponsive, not breathing, or not breathing normally.
3. Is CPR certification required?: CPR certification is not always required, but it's highly recommended for individuals who work in healthcare or other high-risk professions.
Overall, CPR is a lifesaving technique that can help restore blood circulation and breathing in emergency situations.
