Ambica: One in Health

Ambica: One in Health Ambica International Corp. is one of the leading local pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines. Northern Philippine Cobra (Naja Naja Philippinensis); (b.)

Ambica is currently the sole distributor of Reteplase in the Philippines and in partnership with its affiliate company - Ambitech Biopharmaceuticals Inc., they have successfully developed an anti-venom serum against snakebites. Product Description:
• Reteplase 18mg Lyophilized Powder for Solution for Intravenous Injection (MIRel) - the first 3rd Generation recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rTPA) in the Philippines. The rationale behind the development of MIRel-Reteplase was to find a faster thrombolytic agent compared to approved dosage regimens of standard thrombolytics without increasing the risk of thrombolysis. The second aim was to find a substance with a longer effective half-life as compared to approved dosage regimens of standard thrombolytics in order to facilitate the method of administration.

• Anti-Snake Venom Serum (Taradoc) - a polyvalent enzyme refined anti-venom that can treat bites from any of the 3) snake specifies of: (a.) Southern Philippine Cobra (Naja Samarensis); and (c.) Philippine King Cobra (Ophiophagus Hannah). Some other snake species with the same toxicity level can also be treated using this polyvalent enzyme refined anti-venom as it exhibits cross-sensitivity with the other snake varieties such as the sea snake, the Philippines pit viper and the coral snakes.

Snakebite incidents are prevalent in our country, with an estimated number of deaths at an average of 250 deaths in a year. Despite the dreading number, the availability of antivenom remains scarce.

Currently, the only known antivenom for snakebites in the Philippines is the Philippine Cobra Antivenom that is in a monovalent form and is specifically targeted to the venom of the Philippine Cobra.

It is therefore important to develop a 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐌 that can treat snakebites from different species with the same toxicity level.

Ambica, through Ambitech its biopharmaceutical arm, successfully developed the anti-venom* against the following snake species:
• 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐛𝐫𝐚 (𝐍𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐍𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬)
• 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐛𝐫𝐚 (𝐍𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬)
• 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐛𝐫𝐚 (𝐎𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐡)
