EVALI (e-cigarette or va**ng-use-associated lung injury) is a severe inflammatory condition primarily caused by inhaling harmful chemicals, most notably vitamin E acetate found in some THC-containing va**ng products. This substance acts as a thickening agent that, when aerosolized and inhaled, interferes with the lungs natural surfactant and triggers a profound inflammatory response. Consequently, patients often experience acute respiratory distress characterized by symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain, and gastrointestinal issues. In severe cases, this injury can lead to permanent lung scarring, respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation, or even death.
