🏗️ EARTHQUAKE READINESS STARTS WITH PREPAREDNESS
From the Office of the Building Official – City of Parañaque
Earthquakes can strike anytime — without warning. As Building Officials, we remind everyone that preparedness saves lives, and every safe structure begins with responsible construction, compliance, and awareness.
🧰 WHAT TO PREPARE
✅ Ensure your building is structurally sound and compliant with the National Building Code (PD 1096).
✅ Inspect beams, columns, and walls for cracks or weaknesses.
✅ Secure heavy fixtures, furniture, and electrical panels.
✅ Keep an emergency “Go Bag” with flashlight, whistle, first-aid kit, water, and important documents.
✅ Maintain clear exit routes and visible safety signages.
✅ Review and practice your Emergency Evacuation Plan with family members, tenants, or staff.
🏗️ FOR ONGOING CONSTRUCTIONS
🔸 Ensure all safety instruments are in place — scaffolding braces, safety nets, and warning signages.
🔸 Check that formworks and shoring are properly supported and stable.
🔸 Require the use of helmets, harnesses, and PPEs at all times.
🔸 Assign a Safety Officer to oversee site readiness and emergency response.
🔸 Secure all tools, materials, and machinery after work hours to prevent hazards during aftershocks.
⚡ WHAT TO DO DURING AN EARTHQUAKE
🔸 Stay calm and do not panic.
🔸 Drop, Cover, and Hold On — protect your head and stay under sturdy furniture or beside a strong column.
🔸 Keep away from glass, windows, and heavy objects.
🔸 Avoid rushing outside while shaking; move only when it’s safe.
🔸 On construction sites, move to open areas away from cranes, scaffolding, and falling debris.
🔸 After shaking stops, inspect for damage and report unsafe structures to the Office of the Building Official.
Let us stay vigilant, stay prepared, and always entrust our protection to God.
