Lead poisoning can come from unexpected everyday items found in Filipino homes.

🔹 Imported spray paints sold in 2025 contained up to 212,000 ppm of lead — over 2,000 times the legal limit (EcoWaste Coalition, 2025).
🔹 24% of aluminum cookware and 13% of ceramics tested in local markets contained unsafe lead levels (Pure Earth, 2024).
🔹 33% of cosmetics such as lipsticks and eyeliners exceeded national safety limits (Pure Earth, 2024).
🔹 Soil near junkshops in Metro Manila contained over 5,000 ppm of lead, far beyond the safe limit of 400 ppm (Pure Earth, 2023).

💡 But the danger is preventable — here’s how to lower your risk:
1. Clean surfaces regularly with a wet cloth, sponge, or mop
2. Wash hands often — it can reduce exposure risk by nearly 50%
3. Eat foods rich in calcium, iron, and vitamin C to help block lead absorption

Let’s make small changes today for lifelong protection tomorrow. 🌿

21/10/2025

Lead poisoning remains an invisible but deadly threat — causing over one million deaths every year and affecting 1 in 3 children globally. In the Philippines, studies show that 26.6% of Filipino children have elevated blood lead levels — putting their brain development, IQ, and long-term health at serious risk.

Evidence also shows that even small amounts of lead are linked to memory loss, reduced IQ, heart disease, and kidney damage — meaning there is no safe level of exposure.

This International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (ILPPW), ACRI is raising awareness through:

🔬 A Lead-Safe Booth on October 24 at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, where you can bring everyday items — like cookware, tumblers, or cosmetics — for free lead testing using XRF technology

Together, let’s uncover hidden risks and act now for a lead-free future.
