Dr. Rainier Covar obtained his Medical Degree at the University of the Philippines-College of Medicine and finished his residency training in Ophthalmology at University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, where he also became Chief Resident. He pursued further training in Glaucoma at the PGH and at Westmead Hospital, Australia where he also finished a Master of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney. Dr. Covar has been active in medical education, being a member of residency training programs in 2 academic institutions, as well as a member of the Continuing Medical Education and the Research Committee of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the International Council of Ophthalmology Ophthalmic Educators Group. He has contributed to the SEAGIG guidelines (2nd ed), Asia Pacific Glaucoma Guidelines (3rd ed, 2016) and the Angle Closure Glaucoma book published by Kugler publications. Currently, he is a Clinical Associate Professor at the UP College of Medicine, and a member of the consultant staff of the Glaucoma and Cataract service of the UP-PGH Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Luke’s Medical Center Institute of Ophthalmology. He is a key resource speaker in several scientific programs and conferences in the Philippines and internationally, both at the APAO and World Glaucoma Conference. He specializes in Advanced Cataract Microsurgery, Glaucoma, and Low Vision Rehabilitation.
