Alcantara Chiropractic Scoliosis STREAM Program:

CASE

Here we feature the case of a 14-year-old female who presented to us in March 2021 for assessment of her progressive scoliosis.

She showed us a series of x-rays dating back to February 2018 at which point her s-shaped curve had measured only 17 degrees from T6 toT11 and 21 degrees from T12 to L5. By June 2018, the curve had progressed to 31 degrees and 27 degrees respectively. A very large progression was observed in June 2019 to 45 degrees from T5 to T12 and 30.6 degrees from T12 to L4. Interestingly, by this time her orthopedic doctors had her wearing a brace and yet she experienced a significant progression in her curve measurement.

At the time of her first presentation to our clinic, her curve had measured 51.2 degrees from T5-T12 and 36.6 degrees from T12 to L4.

We note that back pain was only a minor complaint when she first presented to us for care. She was initiated into Alcantara Chiropractic’s Scoliosis STREAM Program and completed her 15 sessions in June 2021, after which she continued on a maintenance treatment schedule (once monthly chiropractic sessions).

Alcantara Chiropractic: SCOLIOSIS STREAM Program: 2-Year Follow-Up

CASE

This is a follow-up posting of a case we featured in May 2019. From March 2, 2019 through to May 7, 2019, this young lady had already undergone 7 sessions of our STREAM Program.

Previous medical orthopedic consultation resulted in a recommendation for SURGERY, which her parents refused. In lieu of surgery, she underwent bracing as well as physical therapy treatments. Despite these therapies, postural distortion was pronounced upon her first presentation to our clinic on March 2, 2019.

The initial posture analysis demonstrates a “collapsing” trunk/upper body that is shifting to the right. Spinal and rib cage rotation on the right forces the shoulder blade prominence and unleveled appearance of the shoulders. There is a deep flank fold on the right as a result. From the side view we can see that her abdomen appears protuberant however this is a result of the collapsing trunk and we can also better visualize the scapular prominence and forward rolled shoulders.

After the initial 15 formal sessions of our Scoliosis STREAM Program, she was placed under maintenance care. Her May 6, 2019 x-ray (requested by her Medical Orthopedic Specialist) shows a significant REDUCTION in her upper curve to 39.66 degrees and 43.01 degrees in her lower curve.

Featured are the last posture pictures taken on February 6, 2021. The continued improvement in postural esthetics is remarkable! Her trunk is better centered over the pelvis. Her trunk appears more elongated and the abdominal protuberance gone. There is reduced scapular prominence and reduced forward rolled shoulders (and equally leveled). The deep flank fold has been significantly reduced.

We would like to emphasize that this young lady has ONLY undergone a total of 26 SESSIONS as of February 6, 2021.

She continues under maintenance care.

Alcantara Chiropractic: CASE - Severe case of SCIATICA resolved with Chiropractic!

Here we present the case of a 29 year old male who came to us for assessment and treatment of severe low back pain and radiating leg pain caused by an episode of heavy lifting. He first sought relief with massage therapy, which was only mildly palliative and after which he began to develop radiating left leg pain. Prior to his presentation at Alcantara Chiropractic he had no medical consultation and sought no physical therapy for his case.

A complete physical and chiropractic assessment was performed on his first visit. With permission given by the person seen in this video, we feature portions of his chiropractic sessions, beginning with his 2nd session. Due to length limitations we are unable to show complete video footage of each session, however in addition to chiropractic spinal manipulation, other therapeutic/rehabilitative techniques were utilized throughout his treatment plan. Note the gradual improvements in his pain level as well as improvements in his antalgic gait (limping) with succeeding sessions.

He was initially recommended to undergo 15 sessions in total scheduled once weekly, however his condition was significantly improved by the 9th session. Unfortunately his treatment plan was abruptly suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the imposed community quarantine conditions for Metro Manila that began in March 2020.

He was recently contacted for follow-up and we are happy to report that he continues to do well!

WE ARE OPEN!!

We are excited to finally be re-opening! Please be advised that we are no longer located at Unit 2615 and are now offering chiropractic services at Unit 2002 Medical Plaza Ortigas (same building)!

The health & safety of our staff and our community is important to us! So in order to serve you better, we do want to advise you of our new policies and procedures that are intended to mitigate COVID-19 risks.

Every person will be pre-screened by phone prior to their appointment.
1. Have you been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient or anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms in the past 14 days?
2. Is the area you live in considered a COVID-19 hotspot?
3. Have you traveled outside of the Philippines in the last 14 days?
4. If you answered YES to any of the above, please inform our staff prior to your appointment for further advice.

We are strictly by appointment only.

Please try to arrive on time for your scheduled appointment. Unfortunately, no guests or children will be permitted to accompany you for your session inside the therapy area. (Exceptions: appointment for child under age 16, or those with a disability)

If you arrive early, please call the office as outside seating will be limited. Social distancing standards will be encouraged at all times.

Everyone must wear their own cloth mask or face covering on arrival. No face mask. No entry. No exceptions.

Before entering, please wait for a staff member to check your temperature and you must also clean your hands with sanitizer (to be provided).

There will be hand sanitizer available outside the premises as well as in the waiting and treatment areas and we will be disinfecting the treatment bed after every session, as well as all high touch surfaces, frequently.

Alcantara Chiropractic: CASE # VA2657 - Severe Neck Pain and Back Pain 5 Years After a Motor Vehicle Accident - Relieved With Chiropractic!

Here we present the case of a 34 year old male who presented to us for severe painful restriction of his neck, as well as severe back pain that began in 2015 after a motor vehicle accident. He was previously medically diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis which doctors suggested may be contributing to his spinal pain.

Featured are short segments of our examination and chiropractic adjustment procedures from the first and second session. By the second session , he reported that pain was significantly reduced and movement restriction lmproved.

We perform relevant examination procedures in order to properly determine the issues that need to be addressed. The procedures are intended to provoke pain symptoms to help pinpoint biomechanical (or other) faults and to highlight to the patient that issues are present. The examination results are correlated with information obtained in the history interview which helps us to formulate a better clinical picture and to determine the course of care. Rarely have we required greater than 15 sessions to stabilize back or neck pain conditions - even in the most severe cases.
