It is temporarily placed into the bone of the mouth (usually in the gums between teeth or in the palate).
It serves as an anchor to apply forces to move teeth, often in directions that would be hard or impossible with traditional braces or aligners alone.

A partially erupted wisdom tooth means the tooth has broken through the gum but hasn’t fully come in. This is pretty common and can cause different issues depending on how much of the tooth is exposed and whether it has enough room to grow properly.
