Hello!

I am sharing an event that is organized by a friend. She's having a feeding program in Ilocos Norte, a place that is very dear to me and to my friend.

For every purchase of an anti-mosquito patch that costs 20 to 35 pesos, 1 peso of it will go to the feeding fund.

To tell you more about her page, she is mainly spreading awareness about diseases spread by mosquito bites. She is innovating her anti-mosquito patch to give people (specially children) a healthier option to stay away from mosquito bites. She is a dengue survivor (she had it twice), and I am very inspired and proud of her.

What happens when you're bitten by a mosquito that carries a dengue virus?

The virus attacks the liver, which is responsible for the production of platelets. Platelets helps us not to bleed.

In case of dengue, clotting factors are depleted. Tests include the tourniquet test in which they apply a (calculated) pressure in your arm using the BP cuff for few seconds/minutes. If you start to see small dark dots in your arm, those are blood vessels that were ruptured (micro) due to low platelet.

Interventions for dengue include water intake (lots of water), bed rest (due to fever and avoid extraneous activities because you might bump your head or scratch yourself and you will bleed internally or externally), and blood transfusion (platelet).

Kudos to the mommies who are very vigilant to their kids. Remember, you have to protect yourself as well and the rest of the family.

Let's say NO to dengue.
