While classes continue and programs move forward, DepEd Camarines Sur nurses simultaneously carry out the WASH in Schools (WinS) Validation alongside the provision of Technical Assistance (TA) to schools across the division. These parallel efforts ensure that water, sanitation, and hygiene standards are not only metโ€”but sustained.

Through on-site validation, guidance, and hands-on support, nurses help schools identify gaps, reinforce best practices, and strengthen compliance with WinS indicators. More than checking facilities, this initiative empowers school heads and WinS coordinators with practical solutionsโ€”promoting safe, healthy, and learner-friendly school environments.

This is school health in actionโ€”proactive, collaborative, and committed to quality. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿงผ๐Ÿซ

Strengthening School Health Systems Through Unity and Collaboration

A shared commitment to advancing learner and personnel well-being brought together school health professionals from across the country during the School Health Personnel Convergence, held on December 1โ€“5, 2025 at the Grand Iloilo Hotel, Iloilo City. The national gathering convened Medical Officers, Dentists-in-Charge, Nurses-in-Charge, and Nutritionist-Dietitians nationwide to strengthen collaboration and align priorities for comprehensive school health services under the Department of Education.

The convergence featured in-depth sessions on key programs critical to school health delivery, including the School Mental Health Program, National Drug Education Program, Vision Screening Training of Trainers (TOT), Adolescent Reproductive Health Program, PhilHealth YAKAP, and Dental Services. A major highlight was the launch of CLASS+, a strategic partnership between Department of Education and PhilHealth, aimed at enhancing access to health benefits and services within the school setting.

Recognition and fellowship took center stage during the Awards and Fellowship Night, where service awards were conferred upon retirees and school health personnel with 25 years and above of dedicated service. Newly elected School Health and Nutrition Personnel officers were formally introduced and took their oath of office, symbolizing renewed leadership and collective responsibility. Meaningful discussions also surfaced key concerns on the welfare of DepEd health personnel, reinforcing the importance of sustained support and responsive policies.

Adding to the spirit of partnership, SBFP suppliers and partners graced the event, extending generous freebies and gifts to participantsโ€”further strengthening collaboration in support of school nutrition and health programs.

Representing the Schools Division of Camarines Sur were Dr. Fatima Palencia, Dentist-in-Charge; Dr. Rowena Abrera; and Nurse-in-Charge Kay Asis, whose participation underscored the Divisionโ€™s commitment to continuous learning, intersectoral collaboration, and the strengthening of school health systems nationwide.

NURSE IN ACTION | Jean Maureen M. Jamer, RN

Since joining the Department of Education in 2016, Nurse Jean Maureen M. Jamer has been a steadfast advocate of health promotion and wellness among learners and personnel in Calabanga East. As the WASH in Schools Coordinator, she ensures that every school fosters a culture of cleanliness, hygiene, and health protection.

Her commitment extends far beyond coordination โ€” she conducts health assessments and health education sessions, serves as a resource speaker during INSETs, and actively engages in the implementation of school health programs and services.
