NBS Awareness Week 2025 Campaign Guide
When is the NBS Awareness Week Celebrated?
Proclamation No. 540, dated January 20, 2004, declares the first week of October as the “National Newborn Screening Week”. In celebration of this, Newborn Screening Center-Central Luzon (NSC-CL), together with its program partners and stakeholders, holds various activities to boost advocacy and increase public exposure of the nature and benefits of the program.
Campaign Theme
The theme “NBS O.P.P.A.” for this year’s Newborn Screening Awareness Week highlights the critical elements of newborn screening: Outcomes, Processes, Programs, and Advances. It emphasizes the importance of improving health outcomes through effective screening processes, comprehensive programs, and ongoing advances in technology and care.
Roles of Program Partners and Stakeholders
1. Support the dissemination of campaign messages (infographics/videos) through their institutions’ social media pages and personal accounts, if possible;
2. Invite the staff of the institution to like/follow the Newborn Screening Center – Central Luzon page, share official campaign posts, and join online campaign activities;
3. Join the fansign campaign; and
4. Conduct an online or face-to-face discussion on the importance of expanded newborn screening among the staff of the institution and their patients.
How to support 2025?
General Activities
1. Like the Page. Invite your staff to “like” the Newborn Screening Center-Central Luzon page

2. Share. Share campaign-related posts from the Official Campaign Page using your organizational page/account. Invite your staff to share campaign-related posts and use the official hashtags
3. Use the Campaign Banner. Invite your staff to use the campaign’s official banner/cover photo

4. Show it. Show that your institution supports the campaign through fan signs. Take selfies and groupies while holding fan signs about Newborn Screening and upload them in your institution’s page and personal accounts.

5. Be Creative. Creativity in developing other social media posts is highly encouraged. Your institution can craft a statement of support, upload infographics, videos and other media entries related to the campaign. Don’t forget to use the official hashtags
6. Conduct Online/ Face-to-Face NBS Awareness Campaigns. We highly encourage your institution to conduct online discussions or face-to-face lectures, if possible, among your staff and patients, highlighting the basic facts about expanded newborn screening and its importance. This can be as simple as bench conferences in the OPD with your patients or NBS drives for indigent patients. Don’t forget to take pictures.
Special Activities
1. e-NBS Quiz. Program partners are encouraged to join the online NBS Quiz. On October 2, 2025, questions about Expanded Newborn Screening shall be posted every hour from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the official page of Newborn Screening Center – Central Luzon. Prizes shall be given away to the Top 15 participants who answered the questions correctly.
2. NBS Convention. CPD Units shall be awarded to those who will attend the convention. However, the slots for the 23rd Newborn Screening Convention are already full. If you were able to successfully register, we’ll see you there!
3. Central Luzon NBS Run 2025. The Central Luzon NBS Run 2025 is scheduled for October 4, 2025, at the CDC Parade Grounds. Registration is now closed as all slots have been filled. Looking forward to seeing everyone who secured a spot!
Go an extra mile!
1. Push for local resolutions and ordinances. Collaborate with local government units to pass resolutions or declare support for newborn screening advocacy.
2. More media campaigns. Coordinate media outreach such as special radio and TV segments dedicated to newborn screening awareness.
3. NBS Info Spots/ Knowledge Corners. Set up informational booths at public places like malls, markets, health centers, and hospitals throughout the awareness week.
4. Mobile NBS Drives. Organize mobile newborn screening clinics or outreach programs to reach remote or underserved communities.
5. Creative Hearts for Healthy Starts. Arrange creative contests (e.g., poster, essay, video) among students and community members focused on newborn screening themes.
6. Testimonial Campaigns. Initiate storytelling and testimonial campaigns where families affected by newborn screening share their experiences to create a personal connection with other patients. You may also establish or strengthen patient and family support groups of babies diagnosed with ENBS disorders.
