𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐘

The Department of Health – Cordillera Center for Health Development (DOH-CAR) advises y-Apayaos to stay vigilant and cautious of the effects of the continuous moderate to heavy rainfall brought by the shear line and the Northeast Monsoon that has resulted in rising floodwaters in several residential areas in Pudtol and Flora. Local authorities have opened evacuation centers and initiated rescue operations to assist families who were unable to leave their homes due to the rapid increase in water levels.

DOH–CAR extends its sympathies to the affected communities and families. The Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management teams and responders continue to conduct rescue and relief operations despite challenging weather and terrain conditions.

The regional office is closely monitoring the situation and is in continuous coordination with the Provincial Government of Apayao and the concerned municipalities. Health teams remain ready to provide technical support, medical assistance, and guidance to ensure that evacuation centers are safe, functional, and capable of meeting the immediate needs of displaced families.

The public is strongly advised to remain alert for hazards associated with flooding. Continuous rainfall increases the risk of landslides, soil erosion, waterborne diseases such as leptospirosis, and injuries. Residents in low-lying or high-risk areas are encouraged to follow evacuation advisories, avoid crossing flooded roads or waterways, and monitor updates issued by local authorities.

DOH–CAR further reminds communities to practice basic health and safety measures during emergencies. These include ensuring access to safe drinking water, proper waste disposal in evacuation sites, hand hygiene, and immediate reporting of any signs of illness. Families are also encouraged to keep emergency supplies accessible and to look after vulnerable members such as children, older adults, and individuals with health conditions. Those living in unsafe residences are urged to evacuate to safer areas.

The DOH-CAR, through the Apayao Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO), continues to work with local government units and partner agencies to support ongoing response efforts. While response to the evolving situation continues, the Department also calls on the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and prioritize safety until weather conditions improve and affected areas are declared secure.
