The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased vulnerabilities for people living with HIV/AIDS and those at risk of getting the virus.

Despite the urgent need to address the pandemic, s*xual health services such as HIV testing and treatment must not take a back seat. Roots of Health continues to provide access to these essential life-saving services--especially to young people; persons of diverse s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression and s*x characteristics; and other vulnerable communities--in order to end the threat of HIV by 2030.

Marami sa ating mga kabataan ang nahihirapan at kinakabahang kausapin ang kanilang mga magulang tungkol sa s*x. Ayon sa ilang pag-aaral, challenging din itong gawin para sa mga magulang dahil ayaw nilang magkamali sa mga ibibigay nilang advice sa iyo. Gayunpaman, pinagdaanan na nila ang mga pagdadaanan mo pa lamang sa ngayon. Kagaya ng iba pang mahahalagang usapin, mas mabuting magsimula ito sa loob ng inyong tahanan.

According to the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), births among girls aged 14 years and below increased by 7% in 2019 compared with the previous year. Disturbingly, POPCOM found that 130,000 babies from women younger than 20 years old were fathered by men who are 20 years of age or older.

When a girl gets pregnant below the age of 15, it is often due to s*xual abuse and exploitation by adults. Existing statutory r**e law only punishes s*xual in*******se for minors below the age of 12, and while laws against s*xual abuse of minors 12-17 exist, very few have access to justice and legal remedies.

It’s time we TALK about it, raise the age of statutory r**e, and strengthen law enforcement against s*xual abuse of young girls.
