PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY

Recent reports have circulated about a content creator who allegedly died after consuming a Devil Crab, highlighting the serious risks of eating toxic crab species. Some crabs found in reef areas may contain powerful natural toxins that are not destroyed by cooking and can cause life-threatening poisoning.
Before consuming crabs, it is important to properly identify safe and unsafe species. As shown in the illustration below, certain reef-dwelling crabs such as the Devil Crab may be highly toxic and unsafe for human consumption.

Seek Immediate Medical Attention If You Experience:
• Numbness of lips or face
• Dizziness or weakness
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe vomiting or unusual symptoms after eating crab

OSPITAL NG PALAWAN, NAGPATUPAD NG HEIGHTENED ALERT DAHIL SA PAGTAAS NG KASO NG TRANGKASO

Nagpatupad ng heightened alert ang Ospital ng Palawan dahil sa pagtaas ng kaso ng influenza at influenza-like illness o ILI sa buong bansa.

Sa isang advisory ng Department of Health (DOH) na may petsang January 9, 2026, sinabi nito na ang pamunuan ng ospital ay layon na maiwasan ang pagkalat ng sakit sa loob ng pasilidad, kasunod ng tinatawag na “super flu” na may kahalintulad na sintomas ng karaniwang trangkaso.

Kabilang sa mga karaniwang sintomas ng influenza at ILI ang lagnat, ubo o pananakit ng lalamunan, sipon, pananakit ng katawan at matinding pagkapagod, sakit ng ulo, at hirap sa paghinga sa mga malulubhang kaso.

Bilang bahagi ng infection prevention and control measures, nagsasagawa na ang ospital ng respiratory screening sa triage, outpatient department, BUCAS, at emergency room. Agad ding pinagsusuot ng face mask ang mga pasyente at bisitang may sintomas ng trangkaso, kasabay ng mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng hand hygiene at cough etiquette.

Ipinatutupad din ang droplet precautions para sa mga hinihinala o kumpirmadong kaso, pati na ang mas pinaigting na paglilinis ng mga madalas mahawakan na bahagi ng ospital. Inatasan din ang mga healthcare worker na may nararamdamang karamdaman na agad ipaalam ito sa kanilang superbisor at manatili muna sa bahay o magpasuri bago pumasok sa trabaho.

Pinayuhan naman ang mga pasyente at bisita na magsuot ng face mask habang nasa loob ng ospital, maghugas ng kamay nang madalas, takpan nang maayos ang ubo at bahing, at iwasang bumisita kung may sakit maliban na lamang kung kinakailangang magpatingin. Inatasan din silang agad ipagbigay-alam sa kawani ng ospital kung makararanas ng mga sintomas ng trangkaso.

Ayon sa advisory, epektibo agad ang mga hakbang at mananatili ang mga ito hanggang sa maglabas ng panibagong abiso ang pamunuan ng Ospital ng Palawan.
