Recent reports have circulated about a content creator who allegedly died after consuming a Devil Crab, highlighting the serious risks of eating toxic crab species. Some crabs found in reef areas may contain powerful natural toxins that are not destroyed by cooking and can cause life-threatening poisoning.
Before consuming crabs, it is important to properly identify safe and unsafe species. As shown in the illustration below, certain reef-dwelling crabs such as the Devil Crab may be highly toxic and unsafe for human consumption.
Seek Immediate Medical Attention If You Experience:
• Numbness of lips or face
• Dizziness or weakness
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe vomiting or unusual symptoms after eating crab
