Walking on the Puerto Princesa beach in Palawan island, Philippines, on New Year’s day I saw so many families gathered enjoying a picnic. There were many generations together and the atmosphere was buzzing with holiday cheer. The people called out to me and wished me a Happy New Year and even said I could take a photo of them. What I saw that was so evident was that their festive food was the staple of rice and fried fish. We all have our tables so full of food that we take for granted. We should count our blessings.

I’ve travelled much on a personal journey of Self Discovery since 2019. I studied under Grandmaster Tan Sook Kong and graduated and also received my Training Certificate from the Ministry of Personal Development in Qigong. Life has put challenges in my path which I’ve overcome by implementing the basics in Qigong: breathing and exercise techniques to stay afloat and positive.

I love to imagine funny situations and write them into a story. Both my daughters had blankets or "blankeys" that they loved and took to bed as comforters. I've also always been fascinated by dragons. The two got spun into my story "The Legend of the Fire Dragons".

Turtles have a species called a turtle dragon. Whilst watching the sunset on Perhentian Island, Malaysia and later on, witnessing two turtles lay their eggs on the beach. I was spurred to combine the humour of a dragon who like a child loves all the creature comforts and the dedication of the Turtle Conservation team's efforts to protect these species from going extinct. I wrote about their fight against the poachers and how a "blankey" loving dragon becomes the hero of the day.

Teachers love their students! Should classroom behaviour be seen through rose tinted glasses? Just like 2020 is unforgettable, with the pandemic hitting home on so many avenues, I decided to write my story on the daily challenges of teaching! However, the most important statement in this story in The Gut'n'Butt Clinic and other stories was that, as teachers, we can take anything in our stride, and see the humour too!

Sent via The Gut'n'Butt Clinic and other stories are lovingly written stories about travel, conservation and fun. There are fun school tales too when both teacher and pupils see the funny side of each other. The humourous stories teach too and the lessons are life long learning.
