OPONG REINTENSIFIES INTO A TYPHOON OVER THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA.

The center of Typhoon OPONG was estimated based on all available data at 505 km West of Indang, Cavite (14.2Β°N, 116.2Β°E).
β£Intensity
Maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and central pressure of 970 hPa.
β£Present Movement
West northwestward at 30 km/h
β£Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 400 km from the center

Luzon:
The western portion of Pangasinan (Agno, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini), Zambales, Bataan, the western portion of Cavite (Corregidor Island, Ternate, Maragondon, Magallanes), the western portion of Batangas (Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, Balayan), the northern portion of Occidental Mindoro (Paluan, Mamburao, Abra de Ilog) including Lubang Islands, and Calamian Islands

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
β’ Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by OPONG, will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas not under Wind Signal (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):

Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
β’ Up to 3.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Babuyan Islands, Isabela and Aurora; the western seaboards of Zambales, Bataan, and the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian Islands; the northern and western seaboards of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island.
β’ Up to 3.0 m: The remaining seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the seaboards of Batanes and mainland Cagayan; the northeastern seaboard of Ilocos Norte.
β’ Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
β’ Up to 2.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Quezon including Polillo Islands; the northern seaboards of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur; the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the western seaboard of the rest of Palawan
β’ Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Coastal Inundation
There is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with peak heights reaching 1.0 to 2.0 m within 12 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Zambales. TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
β’ It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to the hoisted Wind Signals (for direct wind threat of the tropical cyclone) and βOther Hazards affecting Land Areasβ for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift more to the north or to the south but within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
β’ On the track forecast, OPONG will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this morning or noon. Outside the PAR region, OPONG will move generally west northwestward towards northern Vietnam.
β’ OPONG is forecast to intensify further as it approaches northern Vietnam.
