PHC Christmas Launching Program 2025

The Philippine Heart Center kicked off its annual Christmas celebration with vibrant, heartwarming festivities befitting this year’s theme, “Ginintuang Puso: Handog ng PHC sa Pilipino.” The event was held at the Dr. Avenilo P. Aventura, Sr. (DAPA) Hall yesterday, December 1, 2025.

Opening the festivities was an eye-catching performance by PHC’s Mr. and Ms. Kupido, Dr. Kian Rubiano and Ms. Anne Garay, joined by the always-energetic Nursing Dance Troupe. Dr. Edwin S. Tucay, Overall Chairperson of the month-long celebration, welcomed everyone to this special Golden Anniversary Christmas event while PHC Executive Director Dr. Avenilo L. Aventura, Jr. shared an inspiring message that heightened everyone’s anticipation for the Christmas blessings ahead.

The crowd’s excitement soared during the highlight of the event, PULZ: The Search for the PHC’s Pop Group, a talent showdown featuring spirited performances from PHC’s four core departments. Nursing Services, dressed in festive pink and green, charmed the audience with their playful takes on “All I Want for Christmas” and “Shut Up and Dance.” Medical Services unleashed their inner superstars with powerhouse renditions of Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” and “Kilometro.” The ETRS doctors surprised everyone by channeling classic matinee-idol appeal through “Nandito Ako” and “Magkayakap sa Dilim.” Not to be outdone, the Hospital Support Services (HSS) team sparked nostalgia with animated performances of “Shagidi” and “Appear-Disappear.”

The judges faced a tough challenge choosing winners, especially with their own fun, interactive moments throughout the show. In the end, Medical Services clinched the PULZ championship; with HSS, ETRS, and Nursing Services as the first, second, and third runners-up, respectively.

Capping off the celebrations were raffle prizes, mini-games, and the much-awaited Christmas Tree and Belen Lighting Ceremony at the Imelda Romualdez Marcos (IRM) Pavilion; filling hearts with the true spirit of the season. With only the first day of December behind us, the festivities have only just begun, and the PHC community eagerly anticipates the warmth and joy this season brings to all.

PHC Inaugurates the National Academy for Cardiac and Vascular Surgery

The Philippine Heart Center proudly inaugurates the National Academy for Cardiac and Vascular Surgery (PHC-NACVS), a groundbreaking institution that marks a new era in cardiovascular surgical education in the country.

The PHC-NACVS stands as the Philippines’ premier hub for specialized, unified, and competency-based training in cardiac and vascular surgery. It will offer structured residency and fellowship programs designed to meet the highest global standards.

Rooted in Section 4 of Presidential Decree No. 673, which mandates PHC to lead in training healthcare professionals in cardiac services, and aligned with the Regional Specialty Centers Act (RA 11959), the Academy strives to:
🔹 Expand training opportunities nationwide
🔹 Decentralize specialized surgical training beyond Metro Manila
🔹 Strengthen regional capacity for advanced cardiac and vascular care

Partner Institutions of the PHC-NACVS:
1. Philippine Heart Center
2. Western Visayas Medical Center
3. Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center
4. Northern Mindanao Medical Center

Our Objectives:
1. Establish the NACVS as a premier national learning institution offering unified, standardized, and comprehensive training programs in cardiac and vascular surgery.
2. Build a network of highly skilled surgeons across the Philippines, to ensure equitable access to quality cardiovascular care.
3. Foster collaboration and continuous professional development by engaging partner institutions as educators, mentors, and active contributors to the Academy.

While Dr. Tayag is an established figure for his medical service to the country, he is not associated with the Philippine Heart Center and so we strongly deny that Dr. Tayag has ever been a part of the institution and cautions the public to be responsible in the use and patronage of false information contained in fraudulent websites.

Furthermore, the institution would like to reiterate to the public to only believe news articles from its official website (phc.gov.ph) and its official page (Philippine Heart Center).

Announcement: No OPD Clinics on November 10

Please be informed that work in Government Offices are hereby suspended on November 10, 2025 in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 106 issued by the Office of the President.

Thus, the Philippine Heart Center OPD Clinics are likewise closed on November 10, 2025. For patients who already secured their schedules on the affected date, the consultation will be temporarily conducted via TeleHealth to ensure continuity of care.

PHC and CRMC Concludes Surgical-Interventional Mission

This week's 5th Surgical-Interventional Mission by the Philippine Heart Center and the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center has finally concluded.

With a total of twenty-nine pediatric and five adult patients, the PHC and CRMC team, along with the medical teams invited from Southern Philippines Medical Center, Amai Pakpak Medical Center, Zamboanga City Medical Center, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Inc., and Brokenshire Medical Center has successfully done open heart surgeries and interventional procedures to treat these patients with various cardiovascular conditions. All of the patients are now extubated, out of the surgical intensive care unit, still closely monitored but are now slowly starting their way to recovery through cardiac rehabilitation and medications.

In the mission's closing program, Dr. Avenilo L. Aventura, Jr. (PHC's Executive Director), Dr. Ishmael R. Dimaren (CRMC's Medical Center Chief), Mr. Victor S. Quiñones, Jr. (PHC's Management Services Department Manager), and Dr. Hassana D. Mangindra-Ontok (CRMC's Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon) thanked each and every one who joined the biggest cardiovascular surgical-interventional mission as of to date.

Though the week has proven to be physically and mentally draining, everyone stepped up and worked hard in order to provide the much-needed cardiovascular treatments the patients needed to attain better quality of life. This is a testament to the unwavering grit and dedication of the Philippine Heart Center and its growing network of Regional Heart Centers in their pursuit of providing accessible, effective, and efficient cardiovascular care for every Filipino.

PHC and CRMC Commences Surgical-Interventional Mission

The Philippine Heart Center and the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center started their 5th Cardiovascular Surgical and Interventional Mission in Cotabato City today, November 3, 2025.

In this morning's opening program, Dr. Maria Bernadette A. Azcueta, head of the PHC's Pediatric Intensivist Section, and Dr. Sittie Aysha A. Iba, CRMC's Adult Cardiologist, presented the cases for this week's mission. This year's Cotabato Mission is the biggest one yet in the history of PHC's surgical missions, with a total of 33 pediatric patients (13 with Patent Ductus Arteriosus, 11 with Ventricular Septal Defect, 3 Atrial Septal Defect, 6 with Tetralogy of Fallot) and 5 adult patients (2 of which are to undergo Patch Closure and 3 to undergo Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting).

With this enormous task, several medical teams were also invited to participate in this endeavor, with representatives from the following hospitals coming to CRMC: Southern Philippines Medical Center (Davao City), Amai Pakpak Medical Center (Marawi City), Northern Mindanao Medical Center (Cagayan de Oro City), Zamboanga City Medical Center (Zamboanga City), St. Elizabeth Hospital, Inc. (General Santos City), and Brokenshire Medical City (Davao City). In total, the surgical-interventional teams from all hospitals comprise 96 people, not including additional staff from CRMC who will also be working alongside them.

This week is expected to be a very busy one, but all of the members of this year's mission are optimistic that everything will go as smoothly as planned, and that the patients will enjoy improved quality of life after their procedures.
